I just need a really good book. That’ll fix me.
somehow… I have never heard of this method, and I’m glad my kid didn’t learn to read like this, and I’m mostly just… amazed (derogatory.)
how did i go so long not knowing we were literally teaching people to read wrong. i knew something wasn't right but jesus christ www.apmreports.org/episode/2019...
How a flawed idea is teaching millions of kids to be poor readers
For decades, schools have taught children the strategies of struggling readers, using a theory about reading that cognitive scientists have repeatedly debunked. And many teachers and parents don't kno...

Tomorrow the Bird Nerds and I will travel virtually to Aotearoa and learn more about the Kākāpō.
I'm looking forward to talking about these lovely big flightless parrots. It's a bit incredible/terrible how there are only 237 of them remaining in the world. (but their population was lower. So yey )

I can’t help but think of Lowenstein’s The Palestine Laboratory when I see what ICE goons are doing in the USA right now.
Including the blatant and endless lying about what they’re doing, when we can see what they’re doing.

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.
He is a computer safety researcher.
And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

Yes, some people's legacies are complicated. For example, Watson. After all, though he was racist, don't forget his other traits. For example, he was also sexist. And also anti-semitic. And a data / idea thief. So let's not forget all the different facets.

virtue signalling is good actually
Performative decency is actually *so* important for this reason.
It tricks the 10% of ghouls into thinking that there are only 1% of ghouls.
And it makes the 30% of people that don't care one way or another follow the mostly decent crowd

Bullying, basketball and an online firestorm: How B.C. college star Harriette MacKenzie stood up to anti-trans hate — and won
Trans athlete Harriette Mackenzie has been ostracized most of her life. One violent play during a Pac West basketball game pushed her to fight back.

Use your senses to ‘learn’ woodland
Not for a minute, sit with your back against a tree for an hour
Become aware of things that weren’t seemingly there before, smells appearing from nowhere, feel leaf & branch debris on your face

I guess I’m going to have to make a vegan Baja blast cheesecake.
It really just sounds like a key lime pie with a little more food colouring (and coconut) to me, so it’s probably not even that challenging in the grand scheme of cheesecake.
