Creeks, rivers, estuaries. Harbours, ports, seas. A Caught By The River writer. Other places too.
Highly recommended. I like the rainy, watery episodes and listen with headphones. Helps me to focus when I’m writing. Thank you Radio Lento! ✍️ 🎧😊

Went to the Andy Goldsworthy exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy. It’s wonderful. Even the information panels are a knock-out.

Lovely to meet @wednesdayerskin.bsky.social last night at beloved @lrb.co.uk. I love her short stories and am looking forward to reading her first novel. ‘Let your characters push back, they are not there to make your points’. Just the advice a novice short story writer like me needs. 😊

Today’s inspiration 😊
Someone reminded me recently of how we stood in
@NorwichStones a long (we don't talk about how long) time ago and I said I wanted to see a book of mine in here one day. So many times I lost belief it would or could happen - still can't quite believe it. I'm 57. It is NEVER too late! 📚💙 #booksky

Had the honour of taking part in the most extraordinary, ancient acts & celebrations, re-affirming commoners rights this week. Hungerford is (likely) the last place Hocktide is still observed in England. It means we kept & keep our commons, & a certain independence. Buckle up, it’s a wild ride… 1/14

Please, if your are able, please support Independent publishers.

Here are a few who live and die by books sales.

They do an enormous amount of heavy lifting in finding great new stories.

Thank you.

Pin Mill 💙
'Thames Barges at Twilight.' (c1950)
Thames barges were a theme to which Edward Seago returned repeatedly, painting them at low tide or with sails billowing during a race. This is most likely Pin Mill on the River Orwell, just six miles downstream from Ipswich in Suffolk.

The front gardens of norf London have been splendiferous this Easter weekend. It’s been such a pleasure to plod about. A floral feast and not yet May.

Following our instagram hack by what my friend and IT expert @dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social described as 'utter bastards', we're back with a new account. Give us a follow there please, help us rebuild an audience of readers.
On Monday our instagram account was hacked and then deleted. We received a ransom note to recover it; obviously we couldn't and wouldn't pay, and therefore lost thousands of followers. Meta support was useless. But we're BACK with a new account: @littletollerbooks. Can you follow us there and share?

Given that whales have been around far longer than humans it might be more accurate to say that human languages have patterns that resemble humpback whale songs.

Humpback whale songs have patterns that resemble human language
The sounds that make up humpback whale songs follow some of the same statistical rules seen in human languages, which may be because of how they are learned

Here's a snapshot of the richness of UK soundscapes. We've been recording them and sharing them as a podcast since lockdown 2020.
