If AI succeeds, we need universal basic income, and if AI fails, we need universal basic income. Also, we should have implemented UBI decades ago when working class incomes first decoupled from productivity growth.
So if AI succeeds loads of people lose their jobs as they're replaced by AI, and if AI fails, loads of people lose their jobs as the economy crashes?
It’s amazing how this story has gone from 0 to 60 in UK press. There’s been no mainstream coverage to date but this morning the story is leading BBC News site & bulletins.

The largest recipients of 'handouts' are those of incredible (often generational) privilege & corporations, who have done a stellar job propagating the lie that they've somehow earned it while the working class & impoverished just haven't worked hard enough.

If we create a basic income floor below which no one can fall, and set it high enough and alongside other universal needs like healthcare and education, then everyone will be more capable of becoming the best versions of themselves, which in turn means a society that is the best version of itself.
