Me, before reading the excerpted passage: “I don’t see why anyone would read Olivia Nuzzi’s book. What a pointless exercise.”

Me, after reading the passage: “I must read this book. The hate-read theoretical has launched the hate-read possible.”
I regret to inform you that Olivia Nuzzi's book appears to be Perfect

insane, stupid, comically overwritten, dishy, politically indefensible I cannot wait to get my hands on it I must accept this is who I am as a person at some deep level whether I like it or not www.vanityfair.com/news/story/o...

State prisons in the U.S. that are massive systems of human rights violations.

When people talk about the excesses of MeToo, they have to lie, because the reality is that there was no massive social reckoning forcing people to believe survivors or hold perpetrators accountable. In fact, there has been a significant backsliding and new punishments in rejection of MeToo

A flash survey shows that fewer than 2% of New Yorkers will be flipping their vote to Cuomo following Donald Trump's last-minute endorsement. But at this Washington Post editorial board meeting, that number seems much higher.

Late to this, but if you aren't willing to stand up for trans people that puts you on the side of the villains. There is no excuse and no "strategy" that justifies it. Either stand with people under attack from the state or get out of the way so someone with a working moral compass can step up.

As the Atlantic Ocean warms, climate change is fueling Hurricane Melissa's ferocity
Hurricane Melissa has rapidly intensified into a Category 5 storm due to warming oceans linked to climate change.

Anyway, I find it despicable to make the political choice to construct a world wherein the regular ideologically-motivated murder of children doesn’t “count” as political violence in order to legitimate data bullshit that will stoke actual political violence and persecution against innoncents

Quoted here sharing my reservations about a study that says right-wing terror attacks are down — the frameworks of terrorism aren’t well suited to size up the threat of political violence and can give people the wrong impression if they don’t understand how they work

Right-wing terror attacks plunged in 2025, while left-wing attacks ticked up: study
From 2011 through 2024, an average of 20 right-wing terror incidents took place each year, compared to an average of nearly three left-wing incidents annually.

Jane Goodall was an outsized reason I studied anthropology in undergrad. Her contributions to wildlife conservation, to cultivating empathy, to speaking out against injustices, and to combating climate change (to name a few) are immeasurable. What a profound loss, but a life profoundly well-lived.
Jane Goodall was my first childhood hero, as I loved animals as a kid and was inspired by her story. I still remember the National Geographic specials about her. RIP.

WOW. The lead plaintiff is a Latino man who's been here legally for 24 years. He was grabbed off the street by plainclothes federal agents who didn't even ASK about his status.

He was detained overnight and only released once a supervisor realized he had been illegally arrested.

Great piece by @pastpunditry.bsky.social, who should be one of your go-to reads for understanding the conservative movement. Her first book, Messengers of the Right, needs more readers. It brilliantly complements @rickperlstein.bsky.social's tetralogy on conservatives from 1960 to 1980.
