Arguably every political debate the US has ever had is about whether to expand democracy beyond the ~6% who were eligible to vote in 1790. The details change but the general fight is always the same.
NEW: Republican-led states, in a new filing at the D.C. Circuit, say D.C. residents are irrelevant, D.C. belongs to everyone else. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

The filing is led by the South Carolina and West Virginia attorneys general. Both states sent troops to DC.

Trump will deport an Afghani living in the US with Temporary Protected Status if he is *accused* of stealing $1000. But he’ll set a white dude free who was *convicted* of stealing $1.6B from American citizens to go commit more crime. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/29/u...

Made it to Santa Fe today to visit our daughter, who is a freshman at St. John’s College. Stopped by my uncle’s old house outside Grants on our way east. Gorgeous skies, stunning landscape, beautiful crisp fall air. I love being back in New Mexico!

Took our 14yo and three of his friends zip lining in the rain in the redwoods today to celebrate his birthday and it was awesome. The teens had a blast and didn’t mind that we tagged along. Coasting through the air, feeling the wonderful rain on my face, gazing out at a gorgeous 2nd growth forest—😁.

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

This is not a deal — it's an empty promise.

Trump and his Republican Congress are making healthcare more expensive for the middle class and ending it for working families.

Time for Democrats to stand tall for affordable healthcare. www.politico.com/news/2025/11...

It’s a beautiful fall day in Northern California. In a counseling session yesterday, a high schooler brought up the state of our nation. I asked him how it feels to be a teen during these times. He said, “Well, every day is a gift so I’m just trying to focus on appreciating each one.” Wise words! 🍎

Best metaphor I've heard is that using AI is like bringing a forklift to lift the weights at the gym. The point is to build YOUR muscles, not to make the weights go up and down.
I love to see stuff like this because it helps explain to people trapped in tech-sponsored information bubbles the actually obvious fact that universities teach people to know & think things, and AI is a way to produce the effect of knowing & thinking things w/o actually knowing & thinking them.

This is the sound of candidates losing the struggle against the crushing weight of partisan gravity.

This is nationalization and polarization and presidentialization swallowing everything else.

This is the dangerous collapse of dimensionality, in one chart

I remember writing a letter to the president for an assignment in 3rd grade. I decided to include a quarter because I wanted to support the government. A few weeks later, I was surprised to receive my quarter back, with a nice letter explaining that our government couldn’t accept personal donations.
New York Times reports that it is unclear whether having a federal agency accept money in excess of congressional appropriations "violates a law prohibiting federal agencies from accepting money in excess of congressional appropriations." I guess we'll never know!

Random thought: many good articles are behind pay walls, while misleading or false content is free. As the economy deteriorates, access to information and facts can become a matter of disposable income.
