A great day in New Mexico (with lots of green chile in my belly!)—so wonderful to have our dogs with us on this trip! 😁🐕

Made it to Santa Fe today to visit our daughter, who is a freshman at St. John’s College. Stopped by my uncle’s old house outside Grants on our way east. Gorgeous skies, stunning landscape, beautiful crisp fall air. I love being back in New Mexico!

Walking down a lonely desert highway—just a dog, a long strip of road, and stormy clouds overhead.

Took our 14yo and three of his friends zip lining in the rain in the redwoods today to celebrate his birthday and it was awesome. The teens had a blast and didn’t mind that we tagged along. Coasting through the air, feeling the wonderful rain on my face, gazing out at a gorgeous 2nd growth forest—😁.

It’s a beautiful fall day in Northern California. In a counseling session yesterday, a high schooler brought up the state of our nation. I asked him how it feels to be a teen during these times. He said, “Well, every day is a gift so I’m just trying to focus on appreciating each one.” Wise words! 🍎

Gorgeous day in Ukiah today. Went on a long hike with a friend and enjoyed both the company and scenery very much. 😁

61° and rainy. Not *quite* cold enough for a fire but it’s Friday night and the dogs and I decided to prioritize coziness.

Fall #flowerreport from Nokomis Elementary’s lovely school garden. Even the most dysregulated students breathe easier when I take them to the garden.

I maybe might have accidentally tried to influence a young voter (aka my 18yo). Don’t tell!

Went to see One Battle After Another. Amazing that this was written and created well in advance of what we’re living now—but I guess we were already heading this way… We need flawed, complex human beings fighting for what’s right in any way we can—we can’t hold out for a hero anymore. Go see this.

Tomorrow is the 1st day of fall and my husband just saw our first golden crowned sparrows of the season in our yard. They always return either on the first day of fall or the day before. I’m appreciating the wondrous occurrences of the natural world—especially during this time of instability. #birds

Went to the Mendocino County Fair & Apple Show yesterday afternoon, which is our favorite fair. A little different now with one teen at college and the other not needing/wanting our supervision as he wandered around the fair with a friend. Listened to goats getting judged, ate fair food, had fun.

In totally other news, my 18yo college freshman demonstrated a Euclid proposition to her math class today and nailed it (and, more importantly, felt good about it) and amidst all the other news that’s occurring I’m so grateful she is experiencing a good start to college. #greatbooks #stjohnscollege

Got to drive Highway 16 twice this weekend, following Cache Creek and marveling at the gorgeous geology formed so long ago. #yolocounty #weekenddrives

Home from a great trip to Colorado to visit with my beloved St. John, Virgin Islands, friends. We met as we all adjusted to becoming moms far away from our families of origin, and quickly became chosen family, leaning on each other for support and companionship. Grateful for their continuing love.

Back home after dropping our eldest off at college for the first time. 🥺❤️ Home feels weird without her. I’m nervous and nauseous and excited and proud—and mostly hopeful that her college experience is challenging (but not too challenging) in all the myriad ways that attending college should be.

Our 18yo leaves for college in two days and our 13yo starts 8th grade in eight days. There was a time when I deeply worried that these two would never develop a close sibling relationship, but that time is thankfully over (yay for therapy!) and now I worry about how much they’ll miss each other. ❤️

Wonderful Wednesday hike in the eastern hills above Ukiah Valley with some surprise summer clouds and a lot of unsurprising hitchhiking sticky seeds.

What an amazing night last night at Red Rocks! Melissa Etheridge killed it and then came the incredible Indigo Girls. 🤩😍🤩😍 Also, the audience was awesome—hooray for community! A fantastic finale to a wonderful trip. #redrocks #indigogirls
