An absolute must-read from @stevevladeck.bsky.social this morning:

This is an obvious point, but cannot overstated. There is an enormous difference between deporting someone - where they get off a plane as a free citizen in their home country AND FUNNELING THEM INTO A BRUTAL PRISON FROM WHICH THEY HAVE NO CHANCE OF EVER EMERGING!!!

Friendly reminder. In the United States, criminals are entitled to due process. Even if you pay hush money rig an election, steal top secret documents, or incite a mob to overthrow the government; no matter how egregious your crimes, you’re entitled to due process.

Where are all the people who were defending the Second Amendment but have been silent about the First? Loud voices about government tyranny but now that we actually have it ….crickets.
Explain to me why encroaching on the second amendment is not allowed even when children’s lives are at stake but the first amendment is easily eroded when someone simply disagrees with our President.

DOGE has reportedly gained access to sensitive NLRB data — including info on union activity, workplace complaints, and names of organizers.

Coincidentally, the NLRB has multiple lawsuits against SpaceX and Tesla.

The conflicts of interest just keep getting more blatant.

In defiance of the Supreme Court & without any evidence, the White House claims that Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a “terrorist,” who was “sent to the right place.”

This is a blatant LIE. He is innocent.

He cannot be allowed to rot in an El Salvadorian jail. He must be brought home.

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

By defying the Supreme Court’s order to return Abrego Garcia from El Salvador, Trump is laying the groundwork to do the same to U.S. citizens.

Now is the time to speak out — before there is no one left to speak.

We are on a path towards dictatorship.

@crampell.bsky.social with an excellent piece - Trump is cutting our legs out from under us by attacking the exceptional higher education system we’ve built in the US

DHS is paying the president of El Salvador to imprison immigrants from the U.S. in brutal conditions — and today, Trump welcomed him to the White House.

Our government shouldn’t ship people off to be tortured.

8/ This is a watershed moment, as Trump thumbs his nose at a Supreme Court ruling, gaslighting the public by pretending his won 9-0 when he lost 9-0.

If we normalize this, there's no end. He can lock up or remove anyone. We will no longer exist in a democracy.

7/ You may not think this case matters to you. But Abrego Garcia was legally in the U.S., just like all the rest of us. His status as an immigrant doesn't matter as a matter of law.

If Trump can lock up or remove ANYONE - no matter what the courts say - we are all at grave risk.

6/ Trump's people are engaged in nuclear grade gaslighting. They say it's up to El Salvador if they want to send him back. Bullshit. We bring people back all the time when we wrongfully remove them. They could get this guy in a hot second if they wanted to.

I'll say it again: in a country where due process is individually denied and then broadly eroded and eventually eliminated, being a citizen will not protect you from the terror of this administration.

Wouldn't it be nice if every news outlet that covered the Bukele Oval Office meeting noted:

District court wrote: Abrego Garcia "has never been charged with or convicted of any crime."⤵️

Fourth Circuit: The government presented "NO EVIDENCE" of MS-13 affiliation. Abandoned argument before court. ⤵️
