What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

You’ve been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who’s coming to save you?

Okay, so WHY is Marjorie Taylor Green resigning? To run for Senate? She doesn’t need to resign to do that. Because she’s taking a principled stand? Naaah. Consulting job? Fox News host? Just… huh?

What perfect album came out the year you turned 16?

I adulted this evening, parenting edition: finalized and submitted the Teen’s FAFSA thingy so maybe we’ll get some financial aid for college.

(Also: how is my first baby old enough to be going to college in about 9 months??)

I solo taught my very first two library instruction classes today, and I’m pretty sure the classes went really well. Go me!! 🙂

News outlets are calling the NJ gubernatorial race for Mikie Sherrill. Thank everything.

Today’s Election Day in the United States. If you haven’t voted early, please vote today. If there are people in your local elections that you never want to see get more power? Vote them out now. Prevent national problems while they’re local problems. (Also: vote Millie Sherrill for NJ Governor!)

I’ll be SO GLAD when the elections are over tomorrow because the political commercials have been SO obnoxious. In the past, I’ve remarked that it sucks voting in a state [New Jersey] where our results don’t matter. After this cycle, I’m hoping for a return to not mattering and its peace and quiet.

Last week, I started a half-semester asynchronous prerequisite class for my MBA. As a reforming last-minute student, I’m super proud of having kept up on the work so far and doing so at regular intervals. Baby steps!

My kids have a few aunts with zero blood or married-in relation. I guess this means that I can never run for office!

This is exactly what I’m doing this year for Halloween: full-sized candy bars, full-sized Skittles and Starburst, and packets of Pop Tarts (frosted chocolate chip pancake and frosted raspberry.) If you make it to my house, you get the good shit.
we don’t get a ton of kids on my street but the kids who do come this halloween are getting the good shit

Happy Monday! I have lunch today with the university provost (whee!) I’ve a bunch of odds and ends to do at work but have to leave at 2 in order to pick up kids at their schools and take the 3 of us to the dentist for checkups. Then home to set up our skeletons and such. It’ll be a good day. 🙂 💀

Trivia: Clement Clarke Moore is a great-great-great-etc-etc uncle of mine on my mom’s side of the family. Go Uncle Clem! 🙂
learned recently that the guy who wrote "The Night Before Christmas," clement clarke moore, also wrote a takedown of thomas jefferson's proto-scientific racism in "Notes on the State of Virginia," basically accusing him and others of making it up to justify slavery. which, that's right.

I started taking a new medication yesterday for my type 2 diabetes, and it involved a pen injector. I had the pens for about 4 days before I worked up the nerve to take the first dose. When I finally did, I didn’t feel the injection at all and had to double check that it worked. (It did.) Go me! 🙂

The Teen just asked me where their raincoat was. My reply: “I dunno. In your room?” Their response: “I looked for a while and can’t find it. I brought it back from summer camp.” I told them it was in their room or the downstairs closet. The Teen seemed annoyed that I couldn’t magic the coat up.

Went to bed earlier than usual, woke up at 1:30 AM with a stuffy nose, then woke up at least 4-5 more times before my 6:30 AM alarm. Happy Monday! 😣
