Newsom is a homophobe and should be ignored. What a waste of space
Newsom: "He's an invasive species, Donald Trump. He took over the Republican Party. Lindsey Graham -- I mean, speaking of the kneepads. I'm sorry. This is tough stuff. I don't recognize these people any longer. You think what I'm saying about Trump is tough? How about what Graham said about Trump."

vaccine skepticism also opens the door to "alternative medicine" grifts
This is the core capitalist element of the anti-vaxx movement. It is an intrinsically capitalist movement. Why provide a preventative vaccine for little-to-no profit when you can earn thousands when they get shingles and hundreds of thousands when they later develop Alzheimer's?

It’s pretty troubling to see a masked federal agents openly promoting Trump campaign slogans while abducting someone off the street.

Suggests that at least some of these guys see themselves as *Trump’s* army.

This is Minneapolis:

It’s -6°F (-21°C) & a dozen folks are keeping watch at elementary school drop off as federal agents circle all over our neighborhood, following some next level terrorizing they did in our neighborhood yesterday.

Yah they’d actually have to do the work dismantling corruption with that demand. The affordability angle allows them to make grand speeches without any substantial policy to carry it out on their parts. Lazy Cowards don’t want to do the work!
with Abolish ICE, you can actually have a plan

I would gently suggest that the highly paid Congresspeople who are failing at their very easy jobs could perhaps talk about two things. I know how crazy that sounds, but these are crazy times.
People are waving around 50/50 polling on abolish ICE and in the same poll Trump’s is like 30 points under water on affordability. It’s not at all crazy for professional politicians to think there’s a bigger advantage in talking about the latter!

President Trump’s pardon freed Jan. 6 rioters from prison. It also emboldened them to demand money from the government.

This is kind of freeing in a way, knowing that there’s no going back to normal. We can build something new, but it will require crushing republicans at every turn, not “working together”
There is no pre-Trump world to which we can return. That has all been washed away.

And there is no near future that is not defined by him and the cataclysm of his rule.

ICE agents detained a 5-year-old on his way home from school and used him as “bait” to knock on his front door to see if anyone was home, according to school officials in Minnesota.

The preschooler is one of at least four children from the same school district who have been detained this month.

Even among people who care about inequality, we've collectively been trained to think about only one dimension of systemic inequality at a time: class, race, gender, religion, etc.

But they're ALL interrelated & even inseparable. Recognizing that is powerful & helps knock down ALL the inequities.
"[F]ive companies—Amazon, AT&T, Home Depot, Microsoft, and Palantir—'helped ICE track, detain, and deport families' while they saved a total of $19 billion in annual corporate taxes."

CEOs "received an estimated $124 million in personal tax giveaways.”

One of the reasons I am so insistent that everyone remember that only 22% of the US population voted for Trump is that the Christian Nationalists want the myth of a mandate in circulation.

We need to reject it. They never had a mandate, and their coalition is shrinking.
The new NYT poll finds Trump 17 points underwater on immigration, and the nonwhite and young voters who went to Trump in 2024 have snapped back to Dems

It's almost as if 2024 might not have represented a seismic cultural realignment on immigration after all, despite 1,000 NYT op eds to the contrary

Biden had kids, infants, appearing in immigration court with no lawyers, no parents, and no hope of being treated like a human being. No one wanted to hear about it, let alone try to stop it while a Democrat was in the White House. ICE is a bipartisan monster for the last 25 years, not just now.

I understand the impulse to distance yourself from American history. I do. But the atrocities are the actual normal for many communities. And until we confront them as part of a baseline societal flaw and address why they keep happening, they will not stop. They will just continue to shift targets
Those atrocities were un-American, too. Why do the evil-doers get to decide what the fundamental American values are? Let's define them ourselves.
I fear my tipping point into madness is "Thus is un-American" posts in response to ICE terrorizing immigrants. I beg you to open Wikipedia (I would say a book but let's start small) and read up on The Trail of Tears, Fugitive Slave Catchers, Japanese internment, Indian Boarding schools & Jim Crow

Media failure!

Some of it is not caring if it doesn't happen to them.
But when people believe incorrect facts about pub affairs, this is a FAILURE of our media environment.

And it's no surprise: Murdoch's Fox has spent decades actively trying to lie about this.
Noticing a trend from my Facebook feed: Lots of Republicans/conservatives in cities subjected to Trump's occupations (L.A., Minneapolis, Charlotte, Chicago) are angry and turning radically anti-ICE.

But Republicans/conservatives everywhere else don't believe them.

So, Dem leadership in Congress WON'T whip votes to try to prevent ICE from getting money to rape, murder, and kidnap, but they WILL whip votes to prevent the Clinton's from being held in contempt for refusing to answer the question "why were you so close to that pedophile empire?"
