This statement about the transphobic Supreme Court ruling by the UK's Crab Museum (yes a museum about crabs) is better than 99% of the statements I've seen on the topic

Anyone working in HE in the UK should be interested in this piece from Caroline. Whether you produce research or consume it, how to access it is likely to change.
“The current ease of access to pre-packaged information bundles may have inadvertently led to a decline in the proficiency of certain research skills among academics. A shift towards open access alternatives means that information will once again become more decentralised and dispersed…” 📚
As cuts mount, those used to one-click searching are in for a shock
If ‘big deal’ subscriptions become unaffordable, librarians will need to help students and academics conduct effective searches, says Caroline Ball

Flicking through papers in the new huge Special Issue on 'Liberating Learning' in the Journal of Learning Development in Higher Education. It's making me so happy.

There are papers on compassionate assessment, joy of learning, fun in teaching. It is beautiful

Dorothy B. Porter changed libraries 💜

The Dewey Decimal System used to only have two classifications for Black people: 325 (colonization) & 326 (slavery). Each book by a Black person was put into one of these classifications. A book of poetry? Classified as colonization.

So for all the talk of The Sisterhood on #TheTraitorsUK most of the murdered victims are women and was curious if that was more than usual (yep 85.7%) but how does that compare? UK average is 72% compared to Australian 46% and US 52%

Air pollution has dropped significantly in #Paris in the last 15 years. Mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social’s leadership has traded car space for green space, safe bike space, kid space.. and traded pollution for people.

Good trade.

The Dogman film is released next month and adults of my acquaintance are beginning to discuss the bizarre premise where a police dog's head is sewn onto a policeman's body after an explosion

Just seen that my water company is being allowed to raise bills by 47% over the next 5 years. FORTY SEVEN PERCENT. Well done to all the shareholders who are getting more of my money, I guess.

Ofwat needs to be renamed, they're in no way a regulator.

"You're almost more stressed out about the practicalities of it than you are about the actual subject" - what does it say if some students are more concerned with academic writing than learning about the subject they came to uni to study? #F2L24

I'm not saying my friends are a bit crazy but my oldest friend just rented her niece a 12ft high Halloween themed bouncy castle.

Just realised that unless I'm fired or something my student loan will be paid off one year before the government would write it off. I'm incredibly fortunate to be in that position. I'm also still really annoyed that none of it will be written off.
