I just realized that Majorie Taylor Greene likely picked January 5th because it would (barely) make her eligible for a congressional pension.
A House Member has to win three consecutive terms and serve at least five years. January 3rd marks her fifth year in Congress.

She doesn't want to have to campaign for the midterms as a GOP loyalist and then be stained by a disaster. Once she sees failure coming , she wants out immediately.
MTG, smarter than most GOP Congressmen, commits to her strategy: be the first rat off the sinking ship. She predicts the GOP will lose the midterms and Trump will be impeached - and while she's often acting, that seems like a true belief. No one should embrace her but we should respect her savvy.

I think she is trying to neutralize the leverage Trump believes he has. Power play/loyalty test: Her former constituents (and maybe other MAGAs) have to pick a side. I predict she might become a much louder Trump critic (on her select issues)

The only things I can think of are that 1. She’s about to get in big trouble for something or 2. She’s been offered a big CEO job like Nunes. Other than that, I’m out of ideas.
