The thing about the ongoing media scandal du jour is that RFK Jr is actually killing people.

The idea a reporter could fall in love with that - and that major magazines and publishers - would find it appealing is appalling.
Another baby has just died of whooping cough in Kentucky, thanks to RFK Jr. and his merry band of anti-vaxxers.

My feeling toward RFK Jr. and the Republican Senators who confirmed him is utter contempt.

Emmanuel’s story enraged many Houston residents as community members grappled with the cruelty of keeping a disabled child locked away from his mother.

This article was published in partnership with @thebarbedwire.com:
A disabled child’s mom reported him missing. He was in federal custody for 48 days.
When Emmanuel Gonzalez walked away from his mom’s fruit stand in October, Houston Police called ICE instead of reuniting them.

Every machine in a Hospital that diagnoses your body without cutting you open is based on a principle of Physics, discovered by a Physicist who had no interest in Medicine.

If you think the world doesn’t need Basic Science, or that somehow Science has failed you, think again.

This policy comes as they 1) install cronies as Institute Directors - eg, JD Vance's old roommate is NIEHS Director 2) reject Council slates & 3) ignore scientific program staff.

In sun, politicos (rather than scientists trained in the appropriate field) can skip applications with no justification
This is concerning.

NIH is changing their policy so that staff have to prepare justification for every application that is funded BUT NO DOCUMENTATION FOR APPLICATIONS THAT ARE SKIPPED (BASED ON PERCENTILES).

ALERT: ICE reportedly snatched a junior on his way to school in Chicago, a teacher says:

“His main priority was getting his reading done for English class.”

Students are being taken from school by ICE — and the classroom is now part of the front lines.

We spent a year investigating billionaires for @washingtonpost.com.

We found: the wealthiest 100 Americans gave $1.1 billion to influence the 2024 elections — 140x more than they did in 2000. And almost all of that giving boosted Republicans.

A queasy reminder that we got the wrong guy at HHS.
A Washington state resident who was the first U.S. human case of bird flu since February died Friday, state health officials said. The person was an older adult with underlying conditions and had been hospitalized since early November.

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

How awful. This is outright health disinformation, lying to the American people. Not only is there massive evidence showing no link between vaccines & autism, there’s not even a plausible mechanism based on what we’ve learned about the genetics of autism, some environmental exposures in pregnancy
HEADS UP: CDC website now officially asserts that vaccines may cause autism.“Studies supporting a link have been ignored by health authorities.” Also says the “vaccines do not cause autism” header remains b/c of an agreement with Cassidy.

New — I wrote about the myriad ways journalism’s moral rot manifests, and how our crumbling institutions have created the conditions for it to fester:
Moral rot in elite journalism is killing the whole field
The Nuzzi/RFK Jr. mess and the revelation of Esptein's journo pals lay bare a profound moral absence at the heart of our free press.

Every reporter should stand for their colleague by asking the same question she did. Every time a reporter is called a name by Trump, the next reporter owes them the decency to repeat their question.

Trump is a disgusting misogynistic pig.
