I find myself walking the streets, trying to find out what’s really going on in the streets.

A big reason we have strong immigrant communities, especially in the Twin Cities, is because they were welcomed. Because people knew it makes our society better.

I mean, it sure ain’t the weather.

It’s not just our neighbors being attacked, it’s our way of life. Our ethos.

We don’t need to reform ICE.
We don’t need alternatives to ICE.
We don’t need to engage in dishonest debates wondering what the U.S. would do without ICE.

ICE isn’t even 23 years old. Most adults know a world without ICE. And the billions used to fund ICE can be used to meet people’s basic needs.

Underlying the constant “Gotta listen to the Trump voters more!” drumbeat is the assumption that they represent “real America,” the true Volk, and therefore have a right to have their voices amplified at all times. It’s an assumption that perpetuates the core ideological claim of Trumpism.

Re: Diddy being acquitted on sex trafficking charges, one of the reasons the MeToo backlash has been so effective is because the court system enables a commentary class to say the absence of a guilty verdict means that women and victims are liars. In reality it’s incredibly hard and rare to convict

kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes

the only way kidnapping and illegally detaining lawful permanent residents (or citizens!) in foreign concentration camps "plays out" is we all live our lives under fascism or the fascists are jailed and many of them executed. that's it. read a fuckin book.

Seeing all these people with endless money, power, and fame capitulate to fascists, who are essentially giant bullies, is pathetic and also dangerous. Have some god damn dignity and self respect. They will not stop taking from you until there's nothing left.

I am so sick of this discourse. The question isn't whether random left-wing people do irritating things. The question is why Democrats are held responsible for the actions of the fringe left while Republicans are not held responsible for the actions of the fringe right.
There’s a “Dems use alienating campus language” discourse going on; I think it’s basically right. College-educated America — media, boardroom, Dems — does adopt language that other people don’t use and sounds odd to them.

Years ago, the AP replaced “illegal” with “undocumented immigrants.” (1/2)
