Exactly. Also, stop writing in a way that dumbs everything down so people know who the villain is because you think some of your audience will make an idol out of a complex villain.

I read The Eye of the Storm by Patrick White on a school trip aged ten or eleven. It was on a lending shelf in the place we stayed at and from the title and cover I thought it was fantasy. It's the first time I'd read such a horrid character that was so compelling but you also had sympathy for
