Happily retired. Former Colorado State Representative. Former small business owner. Current road-tripper and middling photographer.
Yes!
Perhaps foreshadowing 2026.
Before the midterms of 1866, President Andrew Johnson called his congressional opponents traitors and said they should be hanged.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.

So the people who elected Trump are having a FAFO moment. They gave us this mess. I ave no sympathy, and especially no empathy.
New piece: Trump’s approval rating among low-engagement voters has fallen 30 points since Jan, the worst decline for any group. The GOP’s big advantage with hard-to-reach voters has evaporated as economic turmoil & toxic politics turns them away from Trump

Extremely fulsome, if (very justifiably) heated, response by @larrymishel.bsky.social

Not only is Larry's argument muscular, but he already took Smith through this, so I understand why he's bringing the heat. Also, Smith's "tricks" language is offensive and suggests he's not seriously engaging.

This is 100% true in my opinion.
It all boils down to the fact that elite pundits find lefties annoying, because they make moral demands. Whereas the right's appeal is in giving them permission not to give a rat's ass about human rights.
We have had nearly two decades of panic about Free Speech on Campus and not a single case, not even the ones they made up, were as bad as what's happening now

I want us to study the history of resistance to slave catchers right now. I want us to study how slave catchers worked, how they were sanctioned, who paid them, and why they did what they did, right now. I want us to study the hyperlocal and networked ways slave catchers were impeded. Right now.

I’ve visited Wyoming with an Energy Group hosted by the Republican political elite. The entire political establishment and their families could meet in a small Holiday Inn conference room. This big bad booing is a big deal!
This is beautiful, BUT for the record: the very same Wyoming voters voted out Liz Cheneny... You get what you voted for.

Exactly!
Apparently the reason the left "always loses" is because some of us are annoying and put people off. The far-right, of course, are a bunch of cool chill guys that are fun and normal 24/7.

The billionaires have been working on their merger with the evangelicals and “conservatives” for decades…abortion was the wedge issue to get Christians to vote against their own good.

It was never about babies. It was to bring about a coup…it is an oligarchy taking over the US inch by inch.

Now What?
I called and talked with staff and heard what my reps were trying to get done. I heard about the frustration about what little they could do.

Great idea! Maybe the Democratic National Committee should do this too.
Seriously, how hard would it be for the Senate and House Ds to have a morning joint press conference, 7 days a week, contesting Trump's assault on the US right now? Could be a different Senator and House Member each day. We are in a national emergency right now. Our leaders need to act that way.
