This is the final frontier of genocide.

Israeli air strikes killed over 250 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip in the past 48 hours, including over 100 Palestinians last night. There are reports of entire families trapped or missing under the rubble.

Glad I can finally share this big work news! We'll be rolling out our boldly inclusive researcher recruitment, training, and community engagement initiatives all across Leics.

Also, to those who are waiting for me to reply to an email, this is what's been taking up all my time 😅💁🏻‍♂️
Exciting news📢 Thanks to a £2.3M grant from Research England and Leicestershire’s universities, we have an incredible opportunity to expand our initiatives with an additional 27 PhD studentships and 12 Research placements funded across the county.

Spent the afternoon at the London Natural History Museum yesterday. It's such a beautiful building and always nice going back.

Of course I had to pay homage to my faves, the archaeopteryx fossil and the stuffed dodos.

A trans woman wrote to Wetherspoons to ask which toilets they're meant to use. Wetherspoons replied acknowledging the Supreme Court's verdict...and that trans customers can use whichever loos they want to but to please lock the cubicle door.

Labour now being outflanked on the left by Wetherspoons.

Heard back about the grant. It's good news 😀 but that's all we can talk about for now, so don't anyone dare peer pressure me!

I mean, it'll also be the latest episode of Severance that will be keeping me up all night until next Friday.
Expecting to hear the outcome of a big grant application by the end of next week.

Accepting now that I won't sleep properly all week until I hear back 🙃

Hardly new info, but BSky should know:

Warsaw's water quality is monitored by eight clams with magnets attached to their shells. If contamination in the water causes the clams to close, the magnets trigger an alarm and shut off the city's water supply.
Thank you, little guardian molluscs.

Whereas here in the UK, private transport monopolies just roll three D12 and multiply by 3 to decide on the pricing per mile and gaslight us into thinking their putting profit back into the system 🤷🏻‍♂️
It’s over 1,000km from Berlin to Paris

There’s now a direct daytime train between them, that takes 8 hours and costs just €59. Leave at 10am, arrive 6pm.

And… it’s just 1% the carbon emissions of the equivalent flight

Folk at the top of their game in STEM have a *very* high incidence of broad intellectual interests: musicians, artists, writers, polyglots, wide readers. And REF impact comes from breadth of interests not laser focus on specialism. Defunding 🎭🎨🖌️🎼 hurts all blue skies STEM 🧪
Been in a few discussions with industry and civil servants asking about skills, recruitment, retention, economic development in space sector and I’m always making the “stop UK HE collapse and yes that also means saving arts, humanities, socsci even if you only like STEM” point to astonished faces.
Just read this and think. You don't have to listen to me droning on. University chemistry and bioscience in real trouble. If undergraduate teaching and state-funded research both make a loss, then there'll be nothing there in just a few short years. Central govt doesn't appear to even know this.

This won't be good for my annual sugar intake.
