One thing I like to do is collect quirky, fascinating sites. Like this one, that features 5 million YouTube videos, made between 2009 and 2012 when iPhones simply send videos with a filename IMG_XXXX.

During the AWS outage, Eight Sleep mattresses went rogue 🛌

They woke people up with flashing lights, cranked heat to high levels, and locked into upright positions.

Welcome to 2025, where your subscription mattress freaks out because servers went down.

The thing that makes Star Trek utopian isn’t the end of scarcity or the harmony between all peoples it’s also that the guy on the ship who gets laid the most plays the trombone at work and periodically does community theater

Schleswig‑Holstein’s digital minister reveals why open‑source migration matters: vendor lock‑in threatens security, change‑management—not tech—is the real hurdle, budgets shift from licences to dev/training, and open standards like ODF trump any single app. #OpenSource

Computers are doing to communication
what fences did to pastures
and cars did to streets.

An excerpt from an amazing essay "Silence is a Commons" by Ivan Illich, published back in 1983, but very relevant today.

When iPhone 5 was launched (its was a whole row of apps larger than previous models), I remember the internet going crazy with memes - joking the next iPhones would be getting bigger. Looking at the i5 now, it seems tiny compared to anything that has been released recently.
Why do we live in a meme?

Europe’s digital house is built on foreign foundations.

Our latest study reveals that over 74% of publicly listed European companies host email—and by extension their entire tech stack—on US platforms subject to foreign laws.

When I was working on Displaced LP, I set up my gear and synthesizers, so I'd have to sit on the floor. It was uncomfortable, but that was by design. I wanted to force myself to focus on one thing at a time. I'd work in short bursts—30 to 45 minutes.
