Given that the Conversation is running an article on why Canada could benefit from becoming the 51st state, I feel compelled to point out that they declined an article proposal from me on what the rise of the far-right means for Indigenous nations and "reconciliation".

Priorities, I guess.

Where this gets interesting is when monied interests actually switch to supporting wind or solar with the intent of shaping it into something centralised, hoarded and thermal-generation-esque (in terms of dispatch). Eg: this Saudi Aramco project (marketed under their Masdar subsidiary)

The money to fill the gap in international aid funding left by the US is there, obviously. The question is if anyone will step up to the plate to fill it.

The thing about efficiency standards is they save you money.

Like dishwashers being wildly energy and water efficient is why it's literally better for the environment to use a dishwasher over handwashing.

It makes being lazy the greener choice. That RARELY happens.
7 Democrats just joined Republicans to vote to repeal a Biden-era rule strengthening efficiency standards for batteries, dishwashers, washing machines, and pool heaters.

While touted as a way to build American industry, there was also the hope it would force an annexation of Canada. It backfired.
