If Senate Dems allow this deal to go through without ACA premium assistance, they will make it much harder for disabled people to work. They are already getting screwed because of HR1, losing medicaid and SNAP funding. www.americanprogress.org/article/aca-...
ACA Premium Spikes Will Derail Disabled People’s Careers
The expiration of the enhanced premium tax credits threatens the economic stability and health coverage of self-employed Americans with disabilities.

DHS just proposed a new rule letting USCIS collect biometrics from anyone tied to an immigration filing — even U.S. citizens, kids, and sponsors. Includes DNA, iris scans, voiceprints. You can comment by 1/2/2026: www.federalregister.gov/d/2025-19747

🧵 Why this matters ↓
Collection and Use of Biometrics by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) proposes to amend its regulations governing biometrics use and collection. DHS proposes to require submission of biometrics by any individual, regardless...

State Medicaid programs aren't required to cover home- and community-based services and have cut funding in the past to respond to budget constraints. It might get worse under more Medicaid cuts.

Another case of retaliation is Alma Bowman.

Alma is a disabled 58 year old woman who spent 30 months in an ICE camp during first Trump regime

When released, she worked as a whistleblower to expose abuse within the system

In March of this year, ICE grabbed her again

She’s been detained ever since
Disabled People are Being Mistreated in ICE Detention Facilities
Why is no one talking about it? Where's the media? Where's the public outcry? Another example of the pervasive nature of ableism and how society views disabled people as expendable.

Today’s my birthday. It would mean a lot if y’all would read a little spooky work and donate to a local food bank or a favorite lit mag (will list a few of mine in the thread).

I was on SNAP and Medicaid for a while after I completed my PhD in 2020. The ppl losing their benefits are just like me.

This is why I say that ICE enforcement could be a mass disabling event.

This is not an approved carry. This is how you cause injury and disability.

The chemical munitions they use can also disable.

The detention camps are full of disease.

ICE Enforcement May Be A Mass Disabling Event
ICE have proven again and again that they will target the most vulnerable. Their aggressive actions may even become a mass disabling event. Why aren't more people talking about it?

“America First” apparently doesn’t include 8.5 million kids with disabilities. Trump’s Education Dept layoffs wiped out special ed oversight, gutting support families rely on to protect their kids’ rights.
This isn’t budget tightening.
It’s cruelty, dressed as policy.

My latest is the story of how my community has rallied to protect and defend our neighbors in recent days, as ICE has targeted the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago. "This is not a story about a moment of victory, but a moment of being reminded of our power."

Before long, there were dozens, and then hundreds of people in the streets, watching and responding.

A really good question! In most disability advocacy spaces, using words like stupid as a metaphor directed toward an action/institution still means the metaphor rests on assumptions/stereotypes about disabled ppl and reinforces disability as negative. Impt to note that this is often unintended harm
