Potential broad-spectrum antiviral. Shows efficacy against some of the worst shit. Utterly amazing news.
We're close to the world's first-ever broad-spectrum antiviral. In a breakthrough, researchers at the City University of New York have identified a promising path to the development of an antiviral that could be used to fight a wide range of deadly viruses, including future pandemic threats.

Yesterday, Roger Stone announced his partnership with a menswear company, where together they've released a collection of tailored clothing items.

Here is my review of those pieces. 🧵

The president is about to start a war for no real reason. All of the things he has blamed on the country he’s targeting — fentanyl distribution, “emptying the asylums” and sending patients to the U.S., alignment with Tren de Aragua— are provably, obviously false.

Lots of people are going to die.

The DC shooting story is really getting to me because we literally trained this man as a child soldier for a death squad in a forever war and Stephen Miller et al want to blame it on other cultures? It's our culture, American culture, that killed that woman.

Did you really read this whole long thread? Wow! Go spread the word: DOGE isn't actually over.
The "DOGE is gone" articles are clickbait but this one gets it closer to the truth: DOGE is not gone, it just claims to have "no centralized leadership" anymore -- in other words, its leadership is hiding in an attempt to avoid blame.
DOGE no longer has ‘centralized leadership’ under White House tech team, personnel head says
The team that was altered to house DOGE — formerly the U.S. Digital Service — is also still doing its own technology work across agencies.

I think human freedom is the point of conflict here. A human psychotherapist chooses to listen reflectively, and that choice is what really matters. Therein lies the human connection that cannot genuinely be made with a real machine. 1/2
You don't have to become a spiritual dualist to notice how far the ELIZA effect extends! A Turing test only works if you know how to use it. And you can't *prove* we're not machines. (A materialist monist might say that unlike ChatGPT we are the kind of machines that deserve respect as persons.)
one of the things Weizenbaum really nails is that our propensity to believe machine intelligence rivals our own is embedded in a deeper view of humans as being basically machines, that the ELIZA Effect is in part a product of our spiritual and cultural empoverishment... it seems the woke pope agrees

"These are dangerous times for educators telling the truth. Teachers need to assess their own situations and do what keeps them safe. But those who have enough security — citizenship, union protection, tenure — should use that privilege to teach the truth."
African people and Indigenous people were enslaved, trafficked, and forced into servitude by the colonists. That’s a key truth the Thanksgiving story erases.
The Thanksgiving Myth Hides the US’s Inability to Reckon With Its Own History
