Calling tariff revenue a “windfall” is like calling your speeding ticket a bonus for the police budget. Sure, it’s revenue. But for you, it’s a tax.

The Framers made arguably one major mistake: They believed the legislative branch would jealously guard its power. They could not have fathomed that the legislative branch (Out of laziness, raw partisanship and a desire to keep their sinecures) would willingly surrender its power.
one sign that the “unitary executive” is less the restoration of an older constitutional order and more the imposition of a radical new one is that allowing the president to act untethered from most legal or congressional limits has largely just served to plunge the country into disorder

Grocery stores that have been eating the cost of tariffs are about to pump the brakes. Some are looking to be more transparent about the coming price hikes.

Starting tomorrow, new tariffs of 15% to 50% hit a wide range of food items.

If you’ve got a household food budget, this is a must-watch.

I don't think most Americans realize how hard tariffs are about to hit them. The combination of 1) escalating tariffs, 2) companies slowly passing the cost to consumers, and 3) the repeal of the de minimis exemption in the Big Beautiful Bill, a lot stuff will be more expensive in 2027.

Law360 is requiring all stories pass through an AI "bias indicator" before publication.

The new policy came weeks after an executive from its parent company, LexisNexis, accused the newsroom of liberal bias in its Trump admin coverage. My latest for @niemanlab.org
