I hadn't given it much thoughts until now but I just learned that there is a reason why in most French-speaking countries 'eighty' is 'quatre-vingts' -- literally 'four twenties' -- and that reason is the ghostly presence of the ancient Gauls' base 20 counting system.

Kyiv railway station vibe.
I was here again today.

With airports closed for three and a half years,
this station carries on its shoulders
all welcomes and farewells.

98 percent of advice on writing is 100 percent useless.

This is from the 2 percent. Get it down no matter how badly it sucks. Then the hard part is over and the easy, fun but begins.

In the 1930s, Soviets destroyed St Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedral (12th century) in Kyiv.

Before the destruction, Ukrainian restorers saved parts of its frescoes and mosaics.
Some were moved to St. Sophia Cathedral.

I saw them and want to show you.

The first time Charlie Chaplin used his voice in a film, he wielded it to forcefully condemn the rising forces of fascism around the globe.

Will we listen to his words today?

For truly patriotic Americans, this isn't a party, it's a funeral.
There is nothing to celebrate here.
We shouldn't be singing right now; we should be grieving.
We should be mourning the country we could have had but may never see.
We should be asking how we allowed Democracy to die on our watch.

Trump, in reality, is no "king of the deal". This is a legend and a lie. Xi is a far better dealer.
The convicted felon was so fucking sure that the moment he put tariffs on Chinese goods, those commies would fold like a pack of cards. so far, it hasn’t happened — but apparently our very stable genius is nonetheless waiting for a call from Xi that’s never going to come.

Presidents Trump of the U.S. and Bukele of El Salvador said Monday they had “no basis” to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man who was wrongly deported there last month.

No basis?

Trump is treating federal law and federal court orders as mere trash.

But of course they're exempt from Trump's tariffs. Which means he's also complicit in mass murder.

As of now, there is information
about 21 killed and 83 injured people.
