Lumping them together as “AI” gives readers the impression that a single class of tool is discerning novel protein structures, teasing subtle patterns out of mountains of LHC data, writing a student’s History 101 paper, and arguing a ketamine-addled billionaire could post up Shaq in his prime. No.

A few months ago rendering a Reddit page on Firefox was taking upwards of 30 seconds, so I've kept a Chrome session active just for Reddit.

Today I happened to open a Reddit page on Firefox and it was just as snappy as Chrome.

Dunno what changed at Reddit or FF, but now I can shut down Chrome.

With Twinkle "No I am NOT in 'Big Coal's' pocket <cough><cough>" Cavanaugh gone, in a very non-Alabama twist the Alabama Public Services Commission (which regulates utilities in the state) is watching out for Alabama citizens when it comes to proposed power-sucking AI data centers.
‘No free rides for big tech’: Alabama PSC president cautions against data center push for power
Cynthia Lee Almond addressed Project Marvel in her letter, saying that the project would consume "more power and water than any site in our state's history."

There are going to be prominent Democrats and mainstream media voices who insist that we have to "turn the page" and "forgive and forget" and they should all be roundly ignored, if not mercilessly mocked.
It’s crazy to think about the crimes we’re going to learn about after this regime ends.

We’re already hearing about Watergate level crimes every week. Imagine what will come out after it’s over.

We’re going to need a full accounting of all that’s been done in violation of the constitution.

My column from Monday. For the cost of an incomplete 4,000-bed prison in Elmore, Alabama could have paid for five years of health insurance and peace of mind for 174,000 Alabamians.

But our leaders don’t care. Because Alabama government is not designed to help people. It’s meant to control them.
Alabama can never spend enough money on a prison | Alabama Reflector
State leaders who prioritize punishment and control over the welfare of citizens will never see any money spent on walls and bars as wasted.

People were arguing in my mentions today about whether the Earth is "round" when it's technically an irregular oblate spheroid and look "round" doesn't mean "absolutely perfect sphere" it means round. A soccer ball is round, a cantaloupe is round, a fluffy borb in winter is round, just go with it.

The only episode of Dallas I ever watched. In the dorm room of a guy on our floor who had a TV in his room.
Larry Hagman, Linda Gray and Mary Crosby seen here in the "Who Done It?" episode of "DALLAS" dir. Leonard Katzman revealing the person who pulled the trigger was Kristin, J.R.'s scheming sister-in-law and mistress who shot him in a fit of anger, which aired #OnThisDay in 1980

Remarkable: Rep Chrissy Houlahan, one of the Dems that Trump called for executing, tells me her office literally filled out a Capitol Police threat report that listed "the president" as the person making the threat.

while I’m being cranky, access journalism needs to go. When the president does his “I’m alpha because I insulted you” thing somebody needs to fall on his sword and say “what the fuck is wrong with you, old man?” on a hot mic. the hero of the wizard of Oz is Toto.

Hi do you want stories about grief and mushrooms? Alien mushrooms?
A gutting story of love, loss, companionship and how far someone can go to cling to the ghost of a loved one. Fungi consciousnesses have always been an amazing metaphor for our lost connections with nature and with others.
