The only thing less human than these AI dub performances is the decision to sign off on them

A company this big can pay human actors a decent wage, not produce slop that intentionally removes the human element.

Extraction shooters really feel like someone wanted to bottle up the experience of playing an online shooter all night and wondering what you’re doing with your life, then put it into a PVE game.

On Saints Row we had a debug npc named Skinballs (lol) that was literally just four spheres wrapped in different shades of skin texture so we could test lighting for different skin tones during development. But teams need to plan for that kind of testing with intentionality, and not enough do.

I love that Animal Crossing is getting an update, but I’m not sure I can revisit it when the memories are so rooted in the pandemic.

First episode of The Chair Company did not disappoint. Tim Robinson firing on all cylinders & I was physically crumpling at the level of cringe.

I didn’t expect to be so called out as his character obsessively tried to get in contact with a real human in customer service.

I’m delving back into the DS library and Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, the BioWare(!) RPG, has been my first port of call.
It’s a rough start, with mushy pixel art and a bland world, laborious tutorialising and an awkward turn-based battle system with stylus QTEs.

I can answer this!

EARTH MUST DIE is about a dumbass authoritarian dictator, and the whole game is deeply, unashamedly anti-fascist in nature.

The GOOD news is, if you're a fascist, most of the jokes will go over your head and you can just look at the pretty colours? 👍

I saw Aziz Ansari at a tiny warm-up gig last week and it was surreal watching him rationalise performing at the Riyadh comedy festival before any of it was in the news. I didn’t have a clue what was going on but looking back it seems like a guilty conscience.

"There is a cult of ignorance in the US, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that “my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

The Department of Energy has added these terms to its growing “list of words to avoid” because words are dangerous:

climate change
green
decarbonization
emissions
energy transition
sustainability
sustainable
clean energy
dirty energy
carbon footprint
CO₂ footprint
tax breaks
tax credits
subsidies
Energy Dept. adds ‘climate change’ and ‘emissions’ to banned words list
It is the latest in a series of Trump administration efforts to dispute, silence or downplay climate change.

When a chatbot gets something wrong, it’s not because it made an error. It’s because on that roll of the dice, it happened to string together a group of words that, when read by a human, represents something false. But it was working entirely as designed. It was supposed to make a sentence & it did.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.
