THE DEATH OF MME EGLANTINE

Invite three friends over to your house to play a game, "The Death of Mme Eglantine". Tell them you've invited four players. See how long you can keep your friends waiting for the final player. The first player to leave your house wins.
I need everyone to make a shitpost game that fits into at most 3 posts on here before the end of the year otherwise thr sun will not rise again
Not enough shitpost games though

A map of Rohan, Gondor and Mordor with Tolkien's handwriting on the plot notes for The Lord of the Rings, Book V (1944). Tolkien made these notes to coordinate the plot with the map and the phases of the moon.

what I love about LotR is that it is at its heart about moving through a melancholy landscape largely filled with ruins, faded histories and legends - I would have filmed it that way and cut the fights to a bare minimum, plus add Merry's interest in comparative philology as a major plot element

America, there's something you should know.

The top three kinds of books that young people (under 25) offer to sell me on Dec. 26 are:

- "Chicken Soup for the _____"

- "Oh, the Places You'll Go"

- Books of New Yorker cartoons

I'm just saying. Keep it in mind for graduations and birthdays, too.

If you're autistic - Try to lower your shoulders and pull your shoulder blades together, which will stop you from getting that awful neck pain you get all the time.

You can tell that LotR was written by an academic because Gandalf disappears for like 20 years doing research to answer a single question.

December 25th. The day the Fellowship departs Rivendell to destroy the One Ring.

Whatever you celebrate, may you have the courage to take the first steps to defy and endure against the dark, and rekindle light into the world.

Autistic people get a lot of crap for being "rigid" but if you understand how we're experiencing the world, certain things are legitimately a big deal. Family-only and family + friends are completely different and it's not even a debate.
If you have autistic relatives for the love of GOD don’t invite them to a family only thing and then drop extra guests on them and make THEM feel like an asshole if they don’t want to come anymore. You’ve fundamentally changed the thing you’ve invited them to.

I say this with zero irony: if you are even tangentially a part of a retro video game community, it is your civic duty to push back against this company and shun anyone who doesn't. This is fascism tapping gently at the door and as soon as you let it in, it's going to invite its friends.

Techbros seem to love Tolkien, so here's an analogy to help you understand what genAI is.

GenAI is The One Ring. You think your use is justified, b/c you don't have evil in your heart.

But it came from evil, it is intended for evil purpose, & anything you do with it will be twisted to that end.

Elsevier makes literally BILLIONS of $/£ a year; they & their imprints house ~17% of all academic articles published yearly; they pay scholars NOTHING & often make *Us* pay THEM for access rights; they've shoved "AI" into their whole editorial pipeline; & don't even protect our work from plagiarism…

For folks who are (appropriately) frustrated at the lack of older/indie options on streaming services it’s worth checking and seeing if you can get access to Kanopy through your local public library. It works on a credit system so it’s not unlimited but it’s better than Netflix
