Judges are accountable to the law you fool! Literally “the rule of law not of men” is the foundation of democracy. Judges just don’t make decisions based on vibes or to please their supporters and donors. This is despotic thinking.
Alaberta Smith is claiming:
•Judges aren’t elected, so they don’t have legitimacy.
•Courts “overstep” when they disagree with her.
•The notwithstanding clause is her tool to override “incorrect” court decisions.
•SHE gets to decide what is “correct,” not constitutional law.

As Smith and the UCP prepare to use the Notwithstanding clause against vulnerable youth today, I'm thinking of this poem

Eventually she will come for you and me

It's only a matter of time, IMO

This is unconscionable.

My 90-year-old dad, recovering from pneumonia and a fall that gave him 7 cracked ribs has still not received the vaccine. I preordered for him and my stepmom, but they were completely confused about how/where to get it. /1

Whether or not you side with teachers, whether or not you support the concept of unions, if you believe in democracy, you should be horrified at the #ucp 's use of the Notwithstanding Clause to override the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms in order to remove democratic rights from citizens.

The Alberta government is spending $20 million dollars PER DAY by not negotiating with teachers. That's $100 million per week.

That's one Tylenot scandal each and every week.

These people are fiscally and morally incompetent.

If I had to have one of Alberta's new "Strong and Free" license plates, I'd get a frame that read: Canada. The True North....

So glad Marlaina Smith and her minions are spending their time & our money on dog-whistle projects like this, instead of on education, health care, etc.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Who else turns off the radio/tv whenever the orange turd is mentioned? I'm in CANADA. I realize what happens in the US affects us, but do we truly need to hear from a foreign despot multiple times/day? He craves attention. Stop pandering. Do better. We have our own stories. Tell them! #CdnMedia #CBC

The AB govt out of line. I will NOT show anyone my passport or birth certificate in order to renew my driver's license. I'm a dual citizen: of my First Nation, as well as Canada, & if my FN citizenship won't be recognized & noted, then I won't participate. Treaties are agreements between NATIONS.

Look at the University of Toronto, they suspended a teacher that had strong words against Kirk. Also Scheer attacking Rachel Gilmore on X. CNN talk about it but the Canadian news outlet are silent about it.🙄

A bit rich coming from Poilievre when his own wife retweeted a post by Andrew Scheer directing the right-wing mob to go after @rachelgilmore.bsky.social.

His family’s safety matters. No so much those who don’t subscribe to his political project.
NEW: Poilievre says he worries for his family as political violence concerns grow in the U.S. and Canada following the fatal shooting of an American right-wing activist. #cdnpoli #canpoli

He sat down for an in-studio interview with @cathcullen.bsky.social

Rachel is swarmed with hate for 48h after saying the far right would weaponize a death (spoiler: they did). Scheer + Poilievre’s wife fed the mob. Now Poilievre plays the victim? You don’t start the fire then cry about the smoke.

Poilievre isn’t a victim, he’s just an asshole in a suit.

Anyways, here’s an poster that features some members of the conspiracy fringe having an event with a speech from Action 4 Canada who claimed victory on the book bans…

So, I learned this a.m. that the #ucp (I see BS) is preferring gas generated electricity over solar and wind, even though that costs Albertans more.

Make it make sense.

(Government in the pockets of the oil companies.)
August 28, 2025 at 6:14 PM
So, the Alberta government is punishing me by increasing my vehicle registration 300% for driving an electric vehicle. Most sane provinces encourage their residents to reduce emissions by providing rebates, but not the in-the-pockets-of-the-oil-companies #UCP. Sigh. Ignorant dinosaurs.
