If you work in the Office of Special Education for the Department of Education and have been RIF'ed or if you work in a school that has been notified about it, please message me. My Signal is emgarcia.85. I'll protect your identity.
There are reports that the *entire* office of special education at the US Dept of Education has been cut. These hardworking folks ensure kids with disabilities get equal access to a quality education.

America’s children deserve better than this.

It was a pleasure to speak with Maiken Scott of @thepulse.whyy.org about Vietnamese refugees, trauma, parenting, & more to mark the upcoming 50th anniversary of war & diaspora. My interview is the last 12 minutes or so of this thoughtful episode.
It's been 50 years since the end of the Vietnam War — a conflict that forever changed the lives of veterans, refugees, and those still in Southeast Asia

On this episode, the war's legacy and the quiet, ongoing efforts toward reconciliation.

I have a new poem out in the wild(ness). Times are so hard that this feels small. But poetry has reminded me daily we can still think and create freely. I love this journal's sense of beauty and wonder and am delighted that "Field Trip" found a home there: readwildness.com/37/

The sad irony of our unconstitutional moment is that the perspectives of foreign students can be particularly valuable when foreign affairs dominate American discourse.

It’s a dreadful thing to declare to immigrants or foreign students, “Welcome to the land of the free: Now watch what you say.”

I'm ashamed and disgusted that University of Virginia's Board of Visitors voted to end DEI, just a few years after literal Nazis marched with torches on Grounds, and I said so via email. Addresses for you to speak up, too: president@virginia.edu, boardofvisitors@virginia.edu wapo.st/4bvXN8M
