Youth unemployment in Canada is on the rise and becoming a topic. The conservatives try to blame immigrant workers and the temporary foreign worker program. I believe this is a cyclical issue. Here is what I have to say yesterday:

Doing design work for the #GreenBookProject, research by @trevondlogan.bsky.social, @maggieecjones.bsky.social, David Rosé, and others was incredible.

There are a lot of small design details, like this custom loading animation, that were a joy to create.

Just received this statement from Lisa Cook:
"President Trump purported to fire me 'for cause' when no cause exists under the law, and he has no authority to do so. I will not resign. I will continue to carry out my duties to help the American economy as I have been doing since 2022."
President Trump said he is firing Lisa Cook, a Federal Reserve governor, "effective immediately." It's his most direct assault yet on Fed independence -- and a step that it is far from clear he can legally take.

Our work now published showing how better AI can improve both accuracy and diversity in hiring relative to supervised learning tools and status-quo human hiring.
Li, @lindseyraymond.bsky.social & @peterbergman.bsky.social show that incorporating exploration into an interview screening algorithm improves demographic diversity & hiring efficiency, while traditional supervised learning-only tools improve hiring rates at the expense of minority applicants.

New WP with @trevondlogan.bsky.social, David Rosé, and @drlisadcook.bsky.social ⬇️ We study how the intersection of consumer discrimination and market power shapes firm behavior, including pricing decisions using new data on the prices of firms by discriminatory status from 1940-1960.

Evidence from over 25,000 prices shows that monopoly power blunted consumer preferences for discrimination, and Black consumers paid higher prices in the non-discriminatory market, from Maggie E.C. Jones, Trevon D. Logan, David Rosé, and Lisa D. Cook https://www.nber.org/papers/w33547
