Every month for the last 77 years, the Bureau of Labor Statistics has estimated Americans' unemployment rate

This streak dies tomorrow

Govt staff could not survey Americans about whether they're working or looking for work in Oct, the 1st time in 934 months

This blind spot will remain forever
Here's the planned BLS data release schedule for Nov 2025.

On Tues, it couldn't release Sept job openings, hires, layoffs and firings data.

This morning, it couldn't release 2025Q3 business Productivity and Costs data.

Tomorrow, it can't release Oct 2025 #JobsReport

Sorry I refuse to entertain the complete non-existent world where white people don’t know that countless cultures, including some of their own but certainly diasporic racialized ones, call their mom’s cousin’s friend’s sister they grew up with “cousin” and call close women elders “aunt/auntie”

Fed's data blackout deepens during shutdown
The lack of information is especially troubling now, with the central bank facing so many mixed signals on the economy.

This is such a common applause line, but it’s also total bullshit.
There is always money for war, never for the poor.

Every penny spent on bombs, tanks and missiles is stolen from our homes, schools and hospitals.

We are not going to take it anymore.

Is there anything more than vibes to the idea that unemployment is up among the young, due to AI?

Yes, I am aware that there evidence of impacts in specific occupations like software development. I'm interested in the claim that there's been a change in aggregates.

The people behind the inflated protests are performing a monumental service to democracy & peace in the US. The Regime wants riots, but these animal characters are not only an effective protest, grabbing attention & mocking ICE, they seem to reduce the risk of violent protests. It's perfect.
The Portland Frog army has now infiltrated Tulsa, OK and they’ve made an unlikely alliance with the T-Rex infantry and Sharks on Hoverboards mercenary forces.

This is truly terrifying.

This is not a good year to go on the academic job market.
Total # of job listings on JOE. This year is tracking very similarly to 2020 (worst COVID year). In other words, we're seeing considerably less demand for Econ PhDs than in other post-COVID years; e.g. it's roughly one-third lower than last year.

This is bad, but also vital to remember: it’s an EO.

It’s not a new law. It’s just instructions to his appointees. Who remain constrained by the Fed criminal code.

And, to preempt the doomers:

Those.
Laws.
Are.
Holding.

That’s why Trump’s losing it over Comey in EDVA.

If the UK does not take this good advice, maybe Canada will? Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver are great places for tech hubs - lets compete for them by enabling skilled migration and students.
The 100K H-1B fee is the biggest opportunity for the UK yet to revive economic growth and business dynamism.

Now let’s drop those visa fees and NHS surcharges right away to send a clear signal and reap the benefits!
