Mostly a lurker who's trying to talk more! I like reading, listening to music, cozy/low stress gaming, and thinking about writing but rarely publishing said writing.

Walking in Memphis - Marc Cohn

Saw the ghost of Elvis, on Union Avenue

They've got catfish on the table, they've got gospel in the air,
And Reverend Green'll be pleased to see you,
When you haven't got a prayer

We spent four hours with Brownies' and @bandainamcousa.bsky.social's Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree and came away most impressed with its exploration of sacrifice in the face of evil.

Launching on September 18, Towa has easily become one of our most anticipated games of 2025.
VIDEO PREVIEW: Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree's ideas of sacrifice make for a compelling action roguelike
VGG got to spend four hours with this snappy action roguelite that explores ideas of sacrifice and collaboration.

After Summer Game Fest, each of our hosts chooses one game to help uplift and give the flowers it deserves amidst an absolutely jam-packed week. Fern's Best of Show pick went wholeheartedly to Heartspell: Horizon Academy! 💫

They discuss why: youtu.be/ze9z49fVA3g

I love weeks like this where passionate gamers are thriving. Whether its the Switch 2 or "E3", its a great sight to see ppl glowing with hype & it fueling their existence, how important gaming is to them. I know thats cringe to say but it makes me happy seeing gamers joyful. I live for this shit 😭💜🎮

I’m saying this in my capacity as an author and once and future library worker:

Read whatever the hell you want.

I cannot impress enough on you that the “important” books aren’t important if you don’t jive with them. The popular books, the canon, the whatever. Read what you want.

This dude remade Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines as a pixel-art point-and-click game. I've never played the original so I have no idea if he did a good job or not, but it's free if you want to check it out: emontero.itch.io/bloodlust-sa...

The first measles death in the US in a decade -- the tragic, preventable death of a child whose parents chose not to protect them with vaccination -- should spark an immediate nation-wide campaign to ensure all children are protected against preventable diseases. Anything less is unconscionable.

I always appreciate folks telling me they're digging my books, so thank you! BLACK RIVER ORCHARD was such a weird book (evil apples, nightmare orchard) but has big ties to everything that's going on now -- the way we lose family members and communities to cults, and how we fight back against that.
Stayed up late and finished @chuckwendig.bsky.social's "Black River Orchard" - Oh my. What an absolutely disgusting, evil, FANTASTIC novel. Wonderful. I've just started reading Horror in 2025, and this was a joy to read. Without giving much away, Wendig's treatise on the source of evil spot on.

Seriously, creative folks: Don't be afraid to let people know your stuff is out there for them, or worry that "now is not the time for that." People are stressed and freaked out and looking for the things that will give them a moment of rest and joy. It is EXACTLY the time for what we do. Tell them.
