I’m reading more about mana and tapu and the more i understand the more i have the feeling it’s merely a way to speak of things that are very familiar but vague, like power, reputation, historical significance of certain places and occasions.

Reading/listening to te reo brings this additional joy of ‘grammar parsing’.

Saw an interesting term when reading the news in Occitan the other day:
las lengas invisibilisadas
A proper translation would be ‘ignored’ or maybe ‘marginalised’ languages, but the word ‘invisibilisadas’ hits stronger and with more precision:

It’s been a while since i’ve started using a 60% keyboard and i was correct in thinking it’s the most convenient keyboard for me.
I still have to keep the number row because Qazaq layout has letters on it. Maybe after i complete developing my Qazaq steno i could turn to 40%.

I wondered why cats are called ‘ngeru’ in te reo, which is clearly not a loan word, if Aotearoa did not have any ngeru before the arrival of the Pākehā.
Turns out the word derives from ngerungeru ‘smooth, soft (to touch), sleek’ which is a perfect capture of the essence of cats.

Let's talk written accents first. Spanish uses them, and when Nahuatl words are included in a Spanish text, they'll have them, too.

One of the coolest features in te reo Māori is that instead of pronouns (which are used only for people) they have special words for ‘previously mentioned thing’ and ‘previously mentioned place’.

After i liked writing Māori so much i decided it was time to start writing Qazaq with Latin script too. However, i got really tired of the diacritics that every Qazaq latinisation in existence has plenty of. But then i found a way to get rid of them! (post in Qazaq)

After i liked writing Māori so much i decided it was time to start writing Qazaq with Latin script too. However, i got really tired of the diacritics that every Qazaq latinisation in existence has plenty of. But then i found a way to get rid of them! (post in Qazaq)
