I see it more as… wanting to recreate the lightning in a bottle that was ever17’s reception decades ago. (Because all the stuff post infinity tries so hard to ape E17 in terms of plot twists.)

Nirvana Initiative wasn’t bad imo but in retrospect it *is* a downright bizarre game and story

Culture is somehow healthier with creators understanding that if something isnt good the audience might kill them. Its better than whatever led to this in 2012.

Its the result of the game being 2 hours making it easy to stream, having a psuedo-retro artstyle and the vast majority of people not actually playing it. The Chemical X is vague gestures to "late capitalism" (And thus the annoying video essay secondary was born!)
I’ve been trying to think of a comparison for the reception it’s had in other media. is this a uniquely video game thing where even the most understated, psychological, somber work can be turned into fandom fuel? would a movie or comic with this plot, dialogue & art have the same impact?
