I have never seen anything like this in NYC. 5th Ave covered from 42nd St well to the 20s. Nobody prepared for this volume. Volunteers are holding the traffic on all the side streets. No police in sight. #handsoff

This. I worry that institutions will just continue trying to avoid the spotlight rather than resisting collectively. It’s foolish to think any universities can dodge what is coming by remaining silent.
Universities need to treat the Trump administration's hostage lists as organizing lists. A large majority of the universities on these lists should issue a JOINT public response making clear that they won't give in and why they're right not to.
That creates space for the rest of the sector to join.
