Polled students asking what they’d like to see in a future environmental ethics course.

Many suggest: Some good things that have happened/good things humans have done w/r/t the environment.

This could be worth doing, though I fear that ethicists rarely bring good news.

I’ve just started teaching to some (well off) Alabama kids in a university in Alabama.

The political affiliation of my students is markedly different from that of the students I taught at UW Madison, but they’re mostly still just teenagers so it doesn’t feel too different.

I think a document looks best when typed in 12 pt font and then reduced to 11 pt font.

It’s like it’s big when I’m first drafting, because I’m a baby who needs word to look big. But after that I’m a serious real writer for real.

My new paper in The Journal of Value Inquiry is out! I argue that humor is, in a limited sense, insulated from certain kinds of moral concerns! For a read-all link if you lack institutional access see comments. philpapers.org/rec/MYEETI?f...
Lukas Myers, Ethical Taboo in Humorous Play - PhilPapers
When they are first introduced to the ethical study of humor, students and colleagues alike sometimes react skeptically. They worry that doing ethics about humor is somehow antithetical to the nature ...

TikTok may be going away, but short form video content is here to stay (this is a bad thing actually).

I watched 4.5 movies today, here they are in viewing order:

1. The Day After Tomorrow
2. The Happening (half way completed)
3. Slotherhouse
4. Old
5. Trap

That’s right, 2.5/4.5 were M. Night Shyamalan movies. Here’s my evaluation of these movies.

I’m on the Market™️ and opted for the: “Assume it is lottery-like, don’t get invested in any particular job.”

This had helped me to not obsess over which jobs have sent out interview requests and whatnot. This was the desired goal.

But it has the side-effect of making applications seem futile.

I see people say, “A huge portion of farm workers are illegal aliens!” In response to giant deportation plans. But won’t the right just use prison labor?

It’s ultra cheap. It would probably be a boon for the private prison system. Might even be pitched as a big innovative idea (terribly unjust).

Democrats will conclude that they were not far enough to the right.
On the same day that Missouri voted resoundingly (as usual) Republican, they also voted in favor of ending the abortion ban, to raise the minimum and to guarantee workers at middle sized and big employers paid sick leave.
Progressive policies are popular.

General election polling feels like Halloween for Math Nerds. We feel we are watching a race or momentum but we are just seeing them do more stuff to their models until they start calling stuff.
