Want to know what public transport infrastructure project is necessary to improve train services to Kildare?

It’s DART+ SW, which has full planning permission and could go to tender tomorrow. But no government funding until 2030.

It provides DART to Hazelhatch. But also provides more track space …
Suburban / exurban sprawl due to developer-led planning plus a bizarre obsession with roads over higher capacity modes of transport leads to this. Miserable stuff if this is your daily life. www.irishtimes.com/ireland/hous...

Irish government TD says something sensible and principled. A Christmas miracle!
My head nearly fell off. The actual Minister for Health said this?

This plan is based on lie after lie after lie
So it seems the claim of 30% increase in judicial review in 2025 was based on the number to 26 June & *a guess* at a number for July to Dec (which wasn’t fact checked & is wrong)

.. & that erroneous claim is the entire justification for govt plan to limit access to the courts #Speirgorm #Planning

Even if you don’t care about sex workers losing one of the few voices in public life that spoke for instead of over them, you should 100% care that they were refused funding for not toeing the line of the parties in government.

Imagine if IFPA were unfunded until FFG changed their minds on abortion
SWAI Statement on Closing

We are heartbroken to announce that the Sex Workers Alliance Ireland (SWAI) is closing our doors after over 16 years, due to a lack of funding.

Since our foundation in 2009, we have brought an alternative voice to the dominant narrative about sex work in Ireland.

Fuck yeah, funiculars are the best
This composition had eluded me for nearly a decade, but yesterday I was finally able to capture it. A train rolled through just as the Duquesne Incline was crossing over the tracks in #Pittsburgh, creating a picture perfect winter scene. It was worth the hours and hours I've waited over the years.

People need to understand that there is NO scientific way to determine whether someone around the age of 18 is actually over or under it. We are not trees, you cannot just count our rings.

I see the Indo has a story implying every young person assessed to be an adult is "actually an adult", sharing this story I did in 2022 when a child was told he's an adult and left to live with a bunch of men. When the story ran they accepted it was a mistake. www.dublininquirer.com/after-coming...

Love it when people say out loud what they mean by Arab sovereignty. The only country that occupies Lebanese territory and bombs Lebanese cities is Israel, but a strong Lebanese state is not one that defends itself from this but instead cuts itself off from its sister Syria and helps bomb Iran.

The New Yorker style guide has never done anything wrong in its whole life. You’re doing amazing sweetie
My favorite ludicrous New Yorker style is that they print initialisms in full caps but acronyms (initialisms pronounced as words) in small caps, so in the days of CD-ROMs, they'd write the word like this:

British journalists failing to understand that Ireland won't fire unprovoked on a "suspicious ship" because that would be a criminal act and our military doesn't make a name for itself by shooting people who pose no threat to them in the back.
Despite these high stakes, Ireland has no dedicated intelligence agency, just four working navy vessels and the smallest defence budget in the EU. In fact, the only thing the Irish navy can do when it spots a suspicious ship lurking is say “hello”.

The undersea cables being discussed here are the private property of tech multinationals. Maybe they should be paying for the defence of their property instead of expecting Irish taxpayers to pony up.
When it comes to modern war, Ireland is a high-value target: its waters on the western fringe of Europe contain three-quarters of all undersea cables in the northern hemisphere. Despite this, is unprotected and unprepared.

Incredible that Jonathan Bailey’s scarecrow face was makeup/prosthetics and actually really impressive in behind the scenes photos but I saw it in IMAX and fully thought it was a CGI effect. The way that film is shot needs to be studied by scientists
