“I'm pretty androgynous, so no matter what bathroom, what locker room I'm in, someone thinks I'm in the wrong room no matter where I am. It's like, how do I piss in public? How do I go outside and live a life? What if I have to go to the bathroom and I'm out doing my errands or whatever?"
15 activists, including Chelsea Manning @xychelsea.tv and Raquel Willis @raquelwillis.com, were arrested for occupying a women’s bathroom across from Speaker Mike Johnson’s office in protest of his and Nancy Mace’s proposed federal trans bathroom ban, calling on Dems to “grow a spine” and fight it

This is too familiar. A year and a half ago my wife needed a hip replacement. It wasn’t a choice. It was a medical necessity. Through our jobs and my WGA membership we have three “great” insurance policies. The day before the surgery a clerk said her primary insurance wasn’t going to cover it.
Apropos of nothing, thru my spouse‘s job we have “ good” insurance. 5yrs ago, I had knee replacement &they made me jump thru 1 million hoops ofc (& we were out of pocket $$$$ too). 1 month later, they sent me a 5-figure bill for the full amount. They *retroactively* unapproved it & demanded I pay up

Last year, my health insurance company stopped paying for my Humira. Humira is a type of immunosuppressive drug called a biologic, and I take a pretty high dose of it to control my severe Crohn's Disease. Without it, I will have a bowel obstruction, and then I will die.

NEW: Trans people centered themselves in a trans case before a very not trans court. Not only was Chase Strangio arguing Wednesday, but a trans plaintiff was in the courtroom, as were many other trans lawyers, journalists, and observers.

"Trans people were not hidden Wednesday, and that matters."

If you've never had a problem with health insurance companies, I envy you. But that's a privilege in the United States, because good health is a privilege in the United States.

Health insurers, like many corporations, violate every law they think they can get away with. And they often do.

The thing you have to understand about the banality of evil is that it was mundane.

It was people just doing their job. A journalist just publishing an uncritical article about a collaborator. A scientist just doing a calculation without thinking through the implications for weapons.

In Sudan, the world’s largest humanitarian crisis has left more than 11 million displaced and 25 million at risk of starvation. Sudan’s people are “dying from neglect,” says IRC country director Eatizaz Yousif, who herself has been displaced due to the war. #Velshi
‘No safe place’: People of Sudan ‘dying from neglect’
Eatizaz Yousif, herself displaced because of Sudan’s civil war, says there is “no safe place in Sudan” because fighting has spread through the entire country. Yousif says that the country’s capital, Khartoum, being the epicenter of fighting means a weakened and decentralized government. As a result, health and education services have completely collapsed and half of the country’s population is at risk of acute hunger, according to the World Food Programme.
