Wages of unionized workers are 13% higher than their nonunion counterparts.

But unions also set a higher pay standard that all workers enjoy.

In high-union-density states, median household income is $12,000 higher than in low-union-density states.

This is why unions are vital.

Trump wants to deliberately escalate tensions. Don’t fall into his trap. Please do not give him what he wants. We cannot be silent in the face of Trump’s dictatorial moves. But we must not succumb to violence. https://robertreich.substack.com/p/a-time-for-non-violent-civil-disobedience

Trump can’t stand to be humiliated. This is what's driving his dictatorial moves.

But he will overreach. He already has. And this overreach will ultimately be his undoing.

As long as we keep our heads — and engage in peaceful civil disobedience.

Be strong. Be safe.

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.

A thread. 🧵👇

On Christmas day, 1863, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow—a father of six children, the oldest of which had been nearly paralyzed as his country fought a deadly civil war—wrote a poem seeking to capture the dynamic and dissonance in his own heart and the world he observed around him. 1/10

Evangelical leaders telling followers to back Trump fits "any reasonably Christian sense of what constitutes idolatry," writes @aselrod.bsky.social in Arc Digital.

"It is perverse, if not now uncommon, to conflate spiritual rectitude with adoration for the US or support for particular politicians."

A lot of what the government does is hard to quantify and involves complicated tasks that inevitably require bureaucratic coordination and, yes, inefficiency.

The answer to “Biden has violated a norm by pardoning Hunter” isn’t “no he hasn’t violated that norm” or “it’s justified to violate that norm” but “BULLSHIT that’s a norm.” In fact, political pardons have been offered by both Republicans and Democrats.

I'd offer a third criterion: whether Iran chooses to recklessly rearm Hezbollah, instigating another bout of uncontrolled escalation.

Certainly Iranaian re-armamament & Israeli interdiction is going to happen, but how it happens will matter.
