If you’ve not heard Antoinette Konan’s self titled 1986 album, which got reissued in 2019 by the label Awesome Tapes From Africa, you’re in for a treat—it’s joyous, buoyant, and pop-tastic, blending the ahoko (wooden idiophone) with ‘80s electronics

This is the start of round 2 of program cuts. A number of colleges tried to hold off these closures for a year, hoping the feds might change their mind about the visa programs. Now, the hope is gone.

I refuse to lose hope in people. In us. Our local charities have asked for a pause in donations because they have received so much. I told some friends of a toy & gift card donation I'm making to a local family and they insisted on adding more money. I believe we want to help each other.

I also believe -- know! -- interpersonal charity is no replacement for a proper social safety net, so I know we need to keep fighting for that. I am just heartened by the way so many are stepping up in the meantime.

This is a wild thing for someone who calls themselves an intellectual to say with a straight face to the New York Times. This is not a historical account based on an understanding of the history--this is just pure far right, Christian Nationalist propaganda/conspiracy theory ca. 1962-1980s.

U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify swastikas, nooses as hate symbols

The military service, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security, has drafted a new policy that classifies such items "potentially divisive."

Before she died, my great-grandmother told me what her mother told her as swastika uniforms took her to the gas chambers:

"Remember you're a Jew; I'll return soon." She never saw her again.

A new Coast Guard policy says that same swastika isn't hate but "potentially divisive."

Never again is now.

But they’re always claiming Democrats are the dangerous ones, right?

This meets the the most standard definition of tool use used in primatology (Beck 1980), and it surprises me how many don’t think it qualifies as tool use 🧪
A female wolf has been doing something unusual on the Central Coast of British Columbia. She's learned to pull crab traps up from the water, yanking on a rope to bring it to the surface. But is it tool use? Very fun story from @phiejacobs.bsky.social for @science.org
Have wild wolves learned to use tools?
