Its kind of crazy how close sonic became to becoming a 90s relic akin to bonk or bubsy. Lost almost all of its popularity during the saturn era and could have easily have died with sega in the early 00s had they not have gotten lucky with someone being generous enough to forgive most of their debts.

Whats interesting to me about the internet is that traditional celebrities are coached by professionals to handle everything that comes with fame. With the internet anyone can become famous or successful at any point, whether theyre equipped to handle it or not.

The number one thing Nintendo and Pokemon discourse has taught me is my parents were right to give me a Mega Drive as my first console because growing up a Sega kid by default meant intuitively learning the Buddhist principle of impermanence with regard to anything I like and I'm healthier for it.
