Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive.

No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief.

1/ A 🧵 to explain his plan and how we fight back.

Every so often we need a reminder like this that words have actual meanings

@duckworth.senate.gov Sen. Durbin and Rep. Danny Davis - this is even better than boycotting. Disrupt and derail the speech. Trump won’t have a single honest thing to say anyway, and we need to steal his thunder.
I actually think the dems should attend the SOTU, wait till the 2nd sentence, and then walk out en masse, that'll do it, there'll be no address, he'll just have a meltdown on national Tv

If you’re a Dem elected and you’re not mentioning the massive cuts to cancer cure and social security funding in every public appearance you’re just not doing your job.

Finally. Dems have nothing to lose by opposing as hard as they can everything Felon47 does. Literally mean everything. There are no tummy rubs in the midterms for bipartisanship.

As has been pointed out, GOP oversaw the worst national security (9/11), foreign policy (Iraq), disaster response (Katrina), economic (2008 crash) and public health (COVID) crises of our lifetimes. Voters would have to be absolutely nuts to repeatedly put that party back in power, right?
Lots of people out there saying, "at least by fucking everything up they're showing how incompetent they are, which will turn voters against them."

I just wonder where in the world people get this hope. America made it all the way through the election in near-total ignorance. Why would that change?

If you like food you like immigrants.

[Or should.]
About 75% of immigrant farm workers did not show up for work this week in Bakersfield, California, as the threat of Trump’s immigration raids looms.

Immigrant farm workers are too scared to show up to work.

alright you wanna know how to support trans people?

hire them. It's REALLY hard already for visibly trans people to get jobs, even before this shit.

Support places that have trans people working front of house, and make sure owners know that's part of why you're there.

The rules, if you are keeping track:

If a single left activist anywhere in the world says "defund the police," it becomes the official position of the Democratic Party, now and forever.

If the president's top surrogate repeatedly sieg-heils on stage, it's ambiguous, impossible to interpret.

Just a reminder of some of the context around the TikTok ban: In 2020, Trump tried to ban it via executive order a couple months after K-pop fans used it to organize fake signups to Trump’s Tulsa rally, which led him to publicly overestimate how large the crowd size would be.

Whoa!
Cannot stop thinking about how Octavia Butler wrote a book in 1993 about climate change. It opens with deadly fires in LA in 2025. In the story, a fascist President has just won office with the campaign slogan "Make America Great Again."

She was a modern day Nostradamus. If only we'd listened.

What’s up? Trump spewing nonsense to distract us and media, when actual important things are happening.
- Release of the Smith report
- R’s prepared to plunder social programs and explode the deficit for pointless, unproductive tax cuts
- Open season on the environment
- Etc.

I remain skeptical that these claimed tariffs will ever take effect. But note that Mexico is the biggest US trading partner and Canada is now essentially tied for second with China.
