Excuse me @dropout.tv but I would like to point out that "What happened to your barbershop quartet?" is a question and NOT a declarative statement, rendering Brennan's victory in that round of Survivor FALSE @gamechangershow.bsky.social

A tariff on US-imported books is a tariff on literacy. Books are not a luxury item that we can simply do without. If this tariff gets approved, indie bookstores will be forced out of business. Libraries will be hit too; the library books you want for free come from the US too.

I was so convinced that French 'enfer' has an English cognate but I could not for the life of me remember what it is, and the dictionary was just giving me "hell" as a translation

So anyways last night it hit me like a sack of bricks and I yelled "INFERNO" to my knitting at 1am

I feel like videogames actually do provide a pretty accurate representation of real life right now because a lot of videogames are like “THE WORLD IS ENDING” and then you just collect herbs and pretend nothing is wrong

Reminder that if you see disturbing or traumatic images, playing Tetris as soon as possible afterwards can help the brain cleanse itself, and lessen the impacts of it longer term.

No, I'm not kidding. And no one knows how or why it works. But it DOES work, and I encourage you to remember it.

They called me a walking dictionary, so obviously when I found a small, keychain-sized thesaurus at the book fair, I bought it so I could wear it on my belt loop for the rest of middle school and pedantically correct people: "actually, I'm a walking THESAURUS"

Dang, wish I still had that, tbh
I can’t imagine any Bsky early adopter was cool in high school, so what kind of loser were you?

The funniest outcome from the AI thing would be if they can only use out-of-copyright works to train the models, and so we end up with a class of incredibly powerful artificial intelligences that all talk like Victorian pamphleteers.

Which reminds me of a Bruce Sterling passage I read a long, long time ago which has stayed with me. "Get weird. Get way weird. Get dangerously weird. Get sophisticatedly, thoroughly weird, and don’t do it halfway. Put every ounce of horsepower you have behind it."
