Disturbing read with striking charts, especially on the new capital goods trade deficit with China and on the share of sectors in which DE and CN share a comparative advantage.

People have been warning that the export-led model was headed for this wall for many years...

This type of study will forever remind me of @kurtandersen.bsky.social’s Fantasyland, where the contraction and expansion of news sources comes with positive and negative consequences in terms of fantastical thinking (or confirmation bias, at least)
A large majority of U.S. adults now get news digitally, but nondigital news consumers are less likely to say they extremely often or often encounter inaccurate news.

Read more on Americans’ views of information accuracy and distinguishing truth from fiction:
Many Americans say they often come across inaccurate news – and have a hard time knowing what’s true
Those who report often encountering inaccurate news are more likely than those who rarely or never do to say it’s hard to know what is true (59% vs. 31%).

Unexpected McDonald's Japan ad based on "Manga Nippon Mukashi Banashi" (1975-1994), a very popular anime in Japan (inspired by Japanese tales & myths).
This video was the 5th ending, "Ningentteīna", originally directed by Tsutomu Shibayama in 1984 (with less fried chicken).

The next time he is on a Sunday morning show, they should play clips of him saying he doesn’t know something, with time stamps indicating
a) how long since story broke when he originally said he didn’t know
b) how long it’s been at that moment.

Then ask him point by point about each of them again.
Q: A pardoned January 6 rioter was charged with threatening to kill Hakeem Jeffries

MIKE JOHNSON: Terrible. That's the first I've heard of that. I don't know anything about it.

Can I ask, what did the No Kings protest actually accomplish? I mean, in real terms, what have these protests materially changed? I can't help but feel these one off protests are merely a heatsink for energy and anger rather than a path for meaningful change and disruption of the system.
