It's telling that this message from Amichai Chikli, the Israeli Diaspora Minister, about how Jews in NYC need to make immediate Aliyah after the election of Mamdani as mayor, is offered in Hebrew, not English.
Almost like his actual audience isn't really NYC Jews at all.

This Hebrew message from Amichai Chikli, Israeli Diaspora Minister, reads:
"The city that was once a symbol of global freedom has handed over its keys to a Hamas supporter, one whose stance is not far removed from the jihadist fanatics who murdered three thousand of its own people 25 years ago...

I wonder if Chaim Steinmetz of KJ and the other rabbis endorsing Cuomo have considered the message they are sending their congregants by endorsing a man who, according to the Department of Justice, sexually harassed 13 separate women.

Feels like so many of our convos are revolving about how voters respond to what politicians are doing, or what parties’ positions on issues are, without much actual empirical sense of what they actually know about those topics.

For @forward.com, I wrote about something that has been bothering me: Why does all the talk about Jewish safety in the New York mayoral election not count sexual harassment as a threat to Jewish safety and dignity?

In the Mamdani-Cuomo race, why should I choose safety as a Jew over safety as a woman?
Rabbis are denouncing Zohran Mamdani in the race for New York City mayor — without acknowledging the threat to women posed by Andrew Cuomo.

Then, having agreed to that broad definition, you are deemed antisemitic if you do not support a state that prioritizes maintaining a Jewish voting majority above enfranchising everyone who lives in the territory it governs - without interrogating whether “self-determination” really demands that.

The ADL is essentially saying that the interests of Jewish New Yorkers are fundamentally at odds with those of Muslim New Yorkers. You cannot say that antisemitism requires the whole community to unify against a candidate but refuse to say the same about Islamophobia. It makes solidarity impossible.
Zohran Mamdani has moderated considerably on his rhetoric on Israel-Palestine - notably, condemning the "Globalize the Intifada" slogan and releasing a statement celebrating hostages coming home. His tankie fans are upset with him! And it still isn't enough for the ADL.

This event has me deeply worried about the future of academic Jewish Studies in this country.
A great program is in trouble due to direct, political interference by administration. Jewish Studies is only to be allowed to serve the purposes of the U.S. and Israeli states.

I’m glad Van Jones apologized for his sick joking about dead kids in Gaza.
But the problem goes deeper: he spread Netanyahu propaganda that the mass killings of civilians in Gaza—including 20K+ kids—is Iranian fake news.
It’s not the students and young people who are fooled. It’s Van Jones.

As usual with this issue, Harris is calling for a compromise that already exists. Every sporting body has standards for how long athletes must be on hormones before they can compete as women.
The problem isn’t that we’re ignoring ‘reasonable concerns,’ the problem is that republicans are lying.
