When the market goes down hard, it’s never because investors got too bullish, too levered, and too far out over their skis.

It is always because the Fed did it to them.

You're not imagining it: NYC's Citi Bike system costs more to ride than any other major bike-share system in the United States, Canada or Europe — despite astronomical geographic and ridership growth raking in more and more money for Lyft, which operates the program.

Still amazed by this. Can you imagine FDNY saying sprinklers or fire escapes are only needed in buildings where there's already been a fire?
Imagine if we treated any other form of safety like this:"We should only install outlet covers in day care centers on a case-by-case basis, such as where a toddler has stuck his fingers in an electrical socket."

Reactionary-centrist consultant/pundits like @ezrakleinbot.bsky.social are very dangerous for the democracy, because their minds are warped by right-wing echo chambers. How can you be a popularists and not know that abortion access is popular: If you spend all day on X and evening watching Fox News.
I genuinely cannot believe that Ezra Klein said we should run pro-life candidates in Kansas, Ohio, and Missouri; three states that recently held abortion referendums where the pro-choice side won!

Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.

NYT yesterday: we are the torch bearers of free speech!

NYT today: some loser libs are upset that Trump keeps forcing Corporate Media to fire comedians he does not like.
Fans, celebrities and Democratic politicians expressed anger and disappointment after ABC announced that it was pulling “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” from the air indefinitely, saying that the move amounted to censorship and was an attack on free speech.

Hint: maybe the city was never that shining to begin with
What America is going through is not unusual in historical terms. Plenty of examples like it today elsewhere in the world.
What makes it unusual is the rapid collapse from a set of widely espoused norms and values that centered on liberty. It is the sacking of the shining city on hill that shocks.

Please permit me to remind you that just as the First Amendment protects Nazis, who would suppress our speech, it also protects the New York Times, which has sold out every American right and value for the mess of Park Slope potage that is false equivalency, false neutrality, and access.
This is a stunningly pathological lawsuit even by Trumpian standards. It reads as if he was holding a gun to the head of the child of the lawyer drafting it.
Donald Trump sues the New York Times (and Susanne Craig, Russ Buettner, and Michael S. Schmidt) for defamation, and the complaint for some reason begins thus: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

I repeat: This is WILDLY illegal.

Trump is just outright, explicitly, egregiously ignoring the law.

The fact that NONE of these words in the Times post say so is a failure of journalism.
