I really hope people who research excess death zero in on this shutdown.

As a treat.

I got this useful bon mot from a middle school teacher recently.

In response to, “I DONT UNDERSTAND,” he calmly said, “okay what steps have you taken to understand?”

And that’s when I realized that a lot of folks have no steps.

On Friday, I got to rep @blackskyweb.xyz at Georgetown University in DC for the @projectliberty.io 'Workshop on Deliberation, Governance and Decentralized Social Networks'. It was great to be in a space with like-minded folks to talk about the important work we are all doing in these spaces.

I am obligated to remind you periodically that my first novel is out next spring and has nothing at all to do with the current goings-on thank goodness
An even better look at the gorgeous Year of the Mer book 1 (of 2) cover! I gasped just about to death when they told me THEEEE Micaela Alcaino was the one doing it.

You can (and should) pre-order it wherever you pre-order your books. Out April 7, 2026. www.simonandschuster.com/books/Year-o...

Our neighbors are hungry. We saw that enhanced child tax credits could reduce food insecurity, & now we know that food insecurity rose when it was allowed to lapse. And SNAP has always been "supplemental"- that's the S in SNAP.

The status quo was already one where hunger was a persistent reality.
I still think that the pain of "gov't shutdowns" should be shared by those responsible for negotiating.

I also think that true democracies would not allow core state functions to grind to a halt over budget reconciliations because core functions should be funded from a separate pot.

I think that many do not realize that when people say they will die without the ACA, they are not exaggerating or being dramatic. I take medication daily because without it my body does not recognize when to stop bleeding. So I take medication to "trick" my uterus into thinking I am pregnant.

Testimony 🧵
The ACA made my whole self-employed life possible. For almost ten years, I was able to build a career that actually worked for me AND keep receiving necessary care to address the consequences of childhood medical neglect. And I still deserved better. We all do.

i'm not even angry at the dems bc this is what they do

i get pissed at the work y'all put in defending them, denigrating us, just to turn about & be let down but choosing to still go back

i am the angry friend watching y'all go back to the abusive relationship yet again

Here's the thing. Until we leave, they will keep this up.

Us staying is misread as consent. They can do the work to build coalitions with us.

They won't, as we've plainly seen again & again.

They're just not that into us ✌🏾

But now that I'm free I can pour into me, my family, and my neighbors ✨️

I had to slow the volume down (and ended up turning on English captions after second listen) but this was an interesting conversation.

Editor of Prietopunk anthology and Afrolatina Puerto Rican author Yolanda Arroyo Pizarro who has work in it discuss Caribbean science fiction.

Seems like a great event to learn about books and authors. 📚🫶🏾

I checked out an anthology of Afro-futuristic science fiction from the Spanish speaking Caribbean (Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic) from the library, Prietopunk.

It was challenging (I didn't read every story) but amazing.

They’re definitely graded on the “GOP are monstrous” curve.
So much progress gets attributed to Democrats when the reality is the people had to twist their arm for every good thing they finally got on board to do
