In Tlingit, the word for yarn (kakéin) sounds a lot like the word for a certain very addictive substance, and i think if youʼve ever been into fiber arts, that information may resonate with you.

Earth system models show that strong emissions reductions can save some of the world’s permafrost and keep all of its ancient carbon safely locked in frozen ground. As we are intentionally overwhelmed by news, do not forget the power of the Arctic. It will control the climate future for us all.

Probationary park employees ousted amid hiring freeze, leaving Denali in limbo
Caught in the crosshairs of firings and freezes are longtime employees who recently received promotions. Despite their longevity, they lost their jobs as well because of their probationary status.

Ok, so how are grants evaluated? What's it mean to say we "peer review" a grant?
The way it's talked about can make it seem like there's a kind of cronyism involved, but that's not true.

Having looked at what the public gets out of federal funding of science, let's talk about costs.
The grant linked here is fairly cheap so far as grants go, costing $243,553.00 over two years.
Of that, we only received about $161,000 of that for research.
Let's talk about why and what that means.
