While touted as providing economic relief, it would in reality exacerbate inequality and undermine vital social programs. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates this legislation would increase the deficit by a staggering $3.8 trillion over 10 years, benefiting corporations and the wealthy at the expense of low-income Americans. Despite claims of reducing waste, the bill makes draconian cuts of $698 billion to Medicaid, stripping healthcare from over 8 million vulnerable individuals. It introduces stringent work requirements that punish beneficiaries already facing barriers to employment. Furthermore, the bill extends the regressive 2017 tax cuts which disproportionately favored the top income brackets. This fiscally irresponsible maneuver comes at a time when investments in key areas like education, infrastructure, and sustainable energy production are desperately needed to bolster long-term economic prospects. Upholding such an exploitative agenda that overwhelmingly harms America's most marginalized communities cannot be justified. I urge you to stand against this legislation and its thinly veiled attempts to entrench corporate power and inequality under the guise of economic stimulus. Real relief centers the needs of working families, not further enriching the privileged few.
