A classic case of irresponsible both-sidesism from the NYT. The story is that Trump and MAGA propagandists are lying about Portland to incite a conflict, not that there are different views of the matter.

in light of the kimmel news, just a reminder that a few days ago a prominent fox news host literally called for killing homeless people. right afterward, someone shot up a couple homeless encampments.

that fox news host still has his job.

The New York Times and other mainstream US media were quick to buy, praise, and play up Trump’s supposed shift on Ukraine.

A month later, Trump is going to a meeting with Putin, and speaking of territorial concessions, as if parts of Ukraine are Trump’s to trade away.

No real shift or change.

While children are starving, the Trump Admin is literally setting food on fire — destroying 500
tons of US taxpayer-funded food that could feed 1.5 million starving children for a week.

Destroying the food alone will cost $130K. This is heartless cruelty, not efficiency.

Some of the most pro-Trump coverage NYTimes has ever done.

On Epstein, they chose to adopt Trump's transparently disingenuous framing, treating a "grand jury records" stalling tactic as openness—he's trying to hide the rest—and presenting an obvious lie of "prepared to defer to the courts" as real.

Great. We all agree. So what are they going to do about it?

I asked this same question of lawyers at firms that capitulated —ironically when I was interviewed by 60 Minutes.

When democracy is at stake, don’t tell me how you feel. I don’t care what you think. Tell us what you will do.

This is terrifying. The Senate needs to refuse to confirm Emil Bove to the court of appeals, or we will see him on the Supreme Court.

Bove is alleged to have said there’s no need to follow court orders.

The tariff letters Trump has sent to foreign leaders this week have been the ravings of a complete and total mad man.

Our country avoids the conversation about his fitness to serve at our own peril.
We are in new territory with Trump’s latest trade letter, threatening a 50% tariff on imports from Brazil starting Aug. 1
—The US runs a rare trade surplus with Brazil, so there’s no deficit to fix
—Trump says these duties are explicitly over political concerns, not economic ones

Again, it's ~impossible to overstate the scope of the failure of Article I of the Constitution in 2025. The POTUS is simply ignoring laws passed by Congress, & he/Musk/DOGE simply dismantled large swathes of the government that Congress created & funded. And we, as a polity, have just said, "OK" 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️
The ignoring of the Tik Tok ban, going back to the very first days of the Trump administration, remains one of its most galling violations of the rule of law.
After recapping #SCOTUS news, today's "One First" looks at Attorney General Bondi's letters to tech companies purporting to "irrevocably relinquish" their liability for violating the TikTok statute.

I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.
