Excited to be moderating a panel at the @statnews.com summit later this week on the upheaval at the NIH this year, and I have the honor of sharing the stage with three people who have helped me make sense of this moment

Trump doesn't seem to see that some people are still immune to his threats.

Jack White criticized Trump's Oval Office decor. The White House then called White a "washed-up, has-been loser... masquerading as a real artist." And White, undeterred, posted an absolutely blistering takedown in response.

They blame pollution but cut the EPA and clean air and water regulations. They blame poor nutrition but cut SNAP and programs to bring local produce to schools. They blame increased screen time while destroying public infrastructure that connects people. All while they take millions off healthcare.
The White House blamed exposure to environmental toxins, poor nutrition and increased screen time for a decline in Americans’ life expectancy Thursday.

Because they want to kill us, Congress voted to overturn a Clean Air Act regulation limiting toxic emissions from industrial facilities like refineries, chemical plants, and steel mills. This marks the first Congressional rollback of the landmark environmental law's protections since its creation.
Congress moves to loosen toxic air pollution rules
The House and Senate both voted to loosen regulations on air pollutants like dioxin and mercury, which are associated with higher cancer risk.

This is completely false. Even the largest university endowment cannot sustain large-scale scientific research.

In my 25 years at my school, the most monumental research fund drive raised $325M in *total*. Federal research here costs $200M per *every year*.

This is an extinction-level event.

The Brown v. Board SCOTUS decision opened classroom doors across America, expanding access to education for generations.

71 years later, President Trump is trying to close those doors, from threatening to defund schools that teach lessons referencing racism, to dismantling the Department of Ed.

If NC Republicans get away with this, this will open the floodgates for other Republican states to do this. Elections in America will become meaningless & we will no longer be a democracy. This is the highest stakes case we’ve seen since the Jim Crow era.
