“Nvidia Gives Strong Forecast, Countering Fears of AI Bubble”

I very much disagree with this framing. People buying lots of Nvidia GPUs tells us nothing about the eventual ROI on those GPUs.

In fact, a bubble effectively <requires> “too many” of these to be bought.

So per NVIDIA's earnings, it appears that NVIDIA has *agreed* to invest in Anthropic, but its investment in OpenAI is a "letter of intent with an opportunity to invest." Very strange!

OpenAI is the weak link in all this. Even if the bubble bursts NVIDIA will retrench, adapt and do fine.

This means that NVIDIA has agreed to invest "up to" $10bn in Anthropic, but has not agreed to invest a single dollar in OpenAI. Good thing everybody wrote that NVIDIA had "invested $100bn" as if it happened

Nvidia reported a 62 per cent increase in quarterly revenue to $57bn, topping $50bn for the first time. The chipmaker is a bellwether for the AI sector so its solid earnings will assuage recent market fears that have wiped billions off tech stocks.

UK Labour want everyone to know that their new asylum policies, inc stealing the valuables of asylum seekers, were inspired by the Danish Social Democrats.

In Denmark's local elections yesterday the Soc Dems took a hammering, losing Copenhagen for the first time in 122 years. The new mayor? Green.
👏 Congratulations to @sissemariewe.bsky.social who was just elected as the new mayor of Copenhagen.

💚Congratulations to all of the SF members re-elected or newly elected and for the incredible 17.9% of votes across the country.

The thing about trying to project UK politics onto Danish politics/society is that, the context is completely different. For starters, the election yesterday used PR, not FPTP.

(And, to state obvious, Denmark is more than just Copenhagen. There were some surprising results across the country).

Projecting UK politics onto Danish politics without any engagement with electoral systems or local context has been an ongoing obsession of the architects of Starmer's migration and refugee policy for the last three years.

Now they have to choose another orange with which to compare their apple.

It also ignores a key difference - Denmark has a very high trust society (both for institutions and with each other). The UK has low levels of trust in its institutions. That has a significant impact on how political debates manifest.

The problem isn't that Twitter drives a lot of traffic to sites - it literally never has - it's that it's still arguably the main forum for ELITE discussion and news sharing. And a lot of public opinion basically flows down from these elites. As long as they're on there, it will matter.
NPR quit using X/Twitter and saw almost a negligible drop in traffic to site. If a major news organization can do it there’s really no excuse for regular people. They just don’t want to because they’re addicted to the app/website. Do non-alcoholics cede AA to alcoholics? I mean come on. It’s silly.
